Re: Formula Automation - 1990 Formula One Season

Definitely not going for 10.3L engine here. The reliability and fuel injection/carbs here are a major limiting factor, as either you take a huge size penalty, or restrict air flow majorly. It'd be impossible to fit in an engine that has a meaningful output of over 1000hp (naturally aspirated).

Re: Formula Automation - 1990 Formula One Season

Tweaking is ongoing, but I'd like to signal my intention to enter with this:

Based on the 962, which is handy because the 962 is an enduring car that underwent many different modifications and evolutions, particularly the road conversions near the end of its competition life. So I've somewhat emulated the Dauer 962 here. It's just like in Gran Turismo, where you can purchase a homologation version of a racing car, then modify it so heavily that it becomes much much faster than the original.

In this case, this car goes like the balls. I did say that it was nearly impossible to enter a car with a meaningful output of more than 1000hp. But that doesn't mean that I'm not running very close to that mark ;)

Re: Formula Automation - 1990 Formula One Season

haha thanks highoctane... sorry to ruin any planned parties... but honestly I'm still coming to grips with this new build so really, I would not assume that I'm going to actually be that fast.

This said, I think one thing that hasn't changed, is that the quality system does make for some rather important decisions. Where you happen to assign 15+ quality to on the engine, makes a very big difference to what you can do with the engine...

 No parties here, I already suspected that you'd be joining this party before I entered since there's no limit on anything (much) besides creativity and the only thing that matters is speed! :D

I'm sincerely hoping my choices of +15's will see me achieve greatness! (or even a top ten'd be nice) 8-) 8-) 8-)

It seems i may have to rethink my engine choice with the massive power deficiency.

I am VERY curious as to what you have for power Strop, I think I JUST might be able to compete with you for a change since I didn't do a replica this time, I still have NO idea about suspension setups but will go with what I got.

...I changed my mind. This isn't Group 5 racing, this is Le Mans Prototype racing. I'm doomed.

LOL, well it COULD be Group 5 racing, like the Ferrari 312/512 :D Also dont assume you will automatically loose just because you might be down on HP, just depends on how far down you are.......

Re: Formula Automation - 1990 Formula One Season

It's not that I expect to be down on horsepower*, it's that I expect my car to have a lot higher wind resistance. 0-100 kph speed isn't so important when the race is won between 100 and 300 kph and my car tops out around 340-350.

* Although it probably is, a little - as tempting as it was, I didn't dump my +15 into transmission.

Re: Formula Automation - 1990 Formula One Season

Question about reliability: when you say engine reliability, currently, there's no easy way to tell what the reliability of the engine *after* cooling is.

Are engines allowed to run hot? My engine, by itself, has the required reliability, but after that, my average reliability is way higher than required, so I could run the engine hot. Also, for the reliability challenge, is that taking into account engine, or overall reliability?

Blasters: if you would like to know exactly how much power I'm running, feel free to pm me ;) I suspect I already said too much here given that we've spooked more than one player.
