In multiplayer it needs to be reasonably fast, otherwise games would never be played to completion, which would be a pity.

...

Cheers guys!

We might have missunderstood your first reply to the question how how long a game is, I interpreted as the slowest the game would progress was at a speed of 6 years/hour which at least I think is to fast.

I think is that if the standard speed is to fast and you would have to pause the game to do different stuff the game would not be played in real-time it would be more sort of a turn based system.

Correct me if I understand your last message wrong, but I interpret is as saying that before we start a game we set the minimum speed for that particular game. So we could play two different games simultaneously that would progress at different speeds.
But we still haven't got an answer to what would be the standard speed of a game played at the slowest setting and without using the pause setting.

Also I agree with the fact that the multiplayer games have to progress at a high speed so it can easily be played during a weekend.

Which is what many people want, and that's a way to provide that kind of play-style. :)

Before you start a game you'll (probably) be able to choose if you are allowed to pause or not, and what minimum speed you can set the game progression to. Once in game you then still can make the game faster whenever you want, but not below the previously set minimum. This makes playing more than one game at a time pretty unnecessary.

I don't know, but lets think about what would be reasonable?

Slowest: 5 seconds per day -> 38h grand campaign
Slow: 2 seconds per day -> 15h grand campaign
Fast: 1 second per day -> 8h grand campaign
Very Fast: 0.5 seconds per day -> 4h grand campaign

I think the first would be a a solid base speed... but only works when you can accelerate time in the game for down-times.

Re: Can i just say!

I wouldn't complain if the slowest speed were to be 10 s/day giving a speed of just over 1 hour/year.

But it may be a little to early to decide this yet. I think that during the testing of the game it will become clear what the slowest speed will need to be for a person to be able to play the game without having to use the pause function to much.

Re: Can i just say!

I think pausing to design a motor/car/series or what ever is not very realistic. If it takes a few years to develop and test a new series or line then that sort of reflects reality. This happens all the time. Company A creates a new hot car then company B rushes to produce something to compete. Mean company A is improving that car and your late to the game.

Pausing to make things perfect would be a balance issue. I could if I wanted sit all day and night tweaking an engine to make it perfect but if I only had ruffly an hour to build and test it then that would add pressure and excitement to the game.

Re: Can i just say!

I agree 100%. However, it makes sense to give people the option so that they have time to learn the game as they go along. Then for those who want a bit of a challenge, they can let it run without pausing (or even speed things up permanently).
