Packbat wrote:@koolkei: I don't know if this would have a favorable ratio of time-consumed to lessons-learnt, but GenJeFT organized a series of reviews of BRC 1955 cars that I participated in - it might not be much help on setting up suspensions (which, as far as I can tell, is one part "start with the default Race setting", eighty-seven parts trial and error, and twelve parts dark magic) but it ended up covering a lot of the basic go-faster tricks and tools (e.g. negative quality on the body panels for cost and weight savings*). Edit: Part 3 is probably the best - Killrob, one of the devs, joined us for that.

* note: if you use fiberglass, it stops getting lighter at -10, not -15. That said, it's so expensive you might go to -15 anyway.

How did I miss this!?!?? Damn, my car wasnt there, was I supposed to do something to get it "reviewed" as well?

Yeah you would have had to PM Packbat with your car directly to get it included.

s/Packbat/GenJeFT/, but yeah - it was a thing he set up during the gap between entries closing in June and the first training session in July.

I'd offer to review your car separately, but I don't have the old edition of the game any more, and the numbers changed with the update.

(Edit: On that note, I reviewed AshleyBlack's car and pHanta's car in-thread if anyone is interested in reading those.)

Race 5 Training

Here are the result of the training session on the Südschleife: https://youtu.be/chPYtOIRYyc

The 1965 season is not yet planned, it will be using the new implementation in LÖVE2D which is not ready yet. I cannot say anything about the rules because I haven't tried out anything yet.

Right, I didn't hit the "Publish" button. Now it's being processed by Youtube.

Damn, a good example how much a long straight can alter things.
Packbat was nearly all laps .8 sec faster after section 1+2, but section 3, well.... 2.6 seconds on the last lap. Very worn tires at that point.
But nobody seemed to improve after lap 5-6.... not enough tires left?

That and many of the fastest cars weren't losing any of that fuel. I burned through almost all 30 in mine. I finished with like 3 left. Some people had 20+ still in the cars!

It will be a truly intense battle for the championship podium, even more so given that it's best 8 out of 10 races!

Re: BRC 1955 - The Golden Age [Qualifying R5]

Hmm - doing a little bit of points analysis:

  • mattmr2 is in the strongest position right now. If he finishes at his qualifying position (7th) in both heats, that would give him 38 points, and he loses zero points in the drops thanks to Event 3 - and 261 points would be a mathematical guarantee of a podium. If he got another 13 points - that is, averaged a fifth place or better in both events - he would be a lock for the win. That said, if he breaks down in either or both events here, that could put him in a precarious position.
  • Killrob is also in a strong position, but in addition to being down on points relative to the lead, a strong finish would force him to drop his 5 points from the first heat of Event 2 ... so when it comes to getting first place (as opposed to just a podium) he's got something of an uphill battle ahead of him. I said above that 261 mathematically guarantees a podium for mattmr2; 263 is the mathematical maximum possible score Killrob can get. That said, those five points do also give Killrob a little cushion in the case of a breakdown in the reverse-start; provided he places well in the first heat, I would consider him a lock for a podium.
  • conan is the third racer I would favor for top-three-overall, well ahead of mer_at (who qualified 14th here, well behind the lead) and strop (who stands to lose 16 points in the drops, versus conan's 4 points). There are three big questions here: will he survive both heats? will he be able to hold off Killrob, whose tyres are much longer lasting? and will he be able to make his way through the field quickly in the reverse start, to take full advantage of his speed?
  • Further down the field but still with a fair shot are strop, Tycondero, and Der Bayer, all three of whom placed well in qualifying and are near the top of the points. Even mer_at, who I dismissed above, still has a chance of sneaking a top-three championship if any of the favorites falter - a strong performance in the reverse order heat could bring enough of a points bounty to be competitive.

TL;DR: mattmr2, conan, and Killrob, not necessarily in that order, but if any of them break down then keep your eyes open for an upset.
