Starting Error "Steam must be running"

Hello guys,

my english is not as good as it should be

So my problem is, I cant play the game..when I want to start it says "steam must be running", but Steam is running. I reastared it and my computer but it still won't work.


heres a GameLog, I hope you can fix my probleml.

Try looking through this thread and follow the links presented. Someone else had a similar issue not long ago.

Game starts. Will not load

If you don't get anywhere with it, ask again. In the mean time, I'm sure somebody will notice this. It looks like this line: "[02:56:08] Engine: Kee Error: File does not exist." could be a problem, but I'm not the expert on such matters.

Hey, thanks for your answer..but it still not works.

I re-installed Steam, the game, resetarted my computer..everything. I dont know how to fix that.

Try to opt into the open beta of the game and see if that helps! To do that: library, right-click Automation, Properties, Betas, Open Beta

Did the game update after you opted in?

Yes, to play the beta i had to install an update.

Looks like your Steam Client could be out of date.

From the top left of the Steam window. Can you go Steam -> Check for Steam Client updates.

I've got the latest Version of steam. So this couldn't be the problem.

No idea why you would be getting that error under these circumstances.
One thing that is curious however is that the next thing the game does from here (in game log) is:

Do you use any external sound hardware, a headset or similar? If so, can you try to start the game without that plugged in (as a weird test).

Okay I tested it. Nothing changed.

Crazy is, I bought the game in non-steam version, too and it works. I bought it just to test if the game works on my pc, I thought that could be a reason for my starting-problem. However, non-steam version works, steam-version doens't work.

Yeah, this problem really is Steam Client related, not an Automation thing. Still sucks of course, but we really have no clue what could be causing it with the things you have ruled out already.
I assume your other Steam games are running fine?

Yes, all Steam games run without problems.
