Re: Pocket Rockets! [SUBMISSIONS OPEN]

Introducing The FMU Pampero 170 Sport,

This, being the year 1978 meant that Uruguay was strangled by a dictatorship and the company's factory became military camp (a deal with the goverment to keep unions at bay), and imports are highly taxed, Making FMU's revenue mostly domestic, however a few of the cars managed to to sail overseas.

Despite the bad times for Uruguay, FMU was having a good time, expanding and solidifying its influence in the continent and the middle east.

The car is a peppy version of the common Pampero, equipped with IRS, which is a modified Cacique setup.

Re: Pocket Rockets! [SUBMISSIONS OPEN]

I presently have 6 more entries sitting in my inbox, and am waiting for Zabhawkin's redesign.

You may continue sending entries, however, any after the next I receive may not be included. They will sit "on deck", so to speak, if any of the other 8 entries fail (and also fail their revisions).

Re: Pocket Rockets! [SUBMISSIONS OPEN]

Rado IV GTS:

"Rado's recently formed Performance Division is in a bad time, and the company is nearing Bankruptcy due to the Rado F-4 being a disaster due to horrid fuel economy.
In a last-salvage effort for both Rado and it's Performance division, they announce the Rado IV GTS.
The GTS keeps the same FWD with Semi-trailing arm in the rear and McPherson Strut up front layout from the normal Rado IV hatchback, but performance goodies have been installed.
The engine keeps the stock DCOE carburetors with standard intake, but the mufflers are now straight-through, and more aggressive compression and cam profile is installed. The result is 100 HP and 91.5 FT-LBs of Torque. The Interior is more spartan too, with no entertainment system installed at all (Driving the car SHOULD be enough entertainment) but the car still has a rear seat, so it can seat 5 people total. The transmission is a 5-speed manual with the option for an Automatic dropped as any buyer of this car should know how to drive stick-shift. The power-to-weight ratio plus the sports compound tires allows this car to do 0-60 in 10 seconds flat. The car is quite safe with a Drivability/Safety score of 42.5/46.8 respectively. The suspension is stiffer, and solid disc 2 piston up front and drum brakes in the rear are standard. This allows it to lap the Automation Test Track in under 3 minutes."
EDIT: Also comes with an advanced safety package, including a driver's airbag.
Price (1978 US dollars): $2,250

The FMU is a 4-door, technically it is illegal for this competition.

You could send it and it would be allowed in if any of the 3 currently pending their revisions fails to pass muster.

Re: Pocket Rockets! [RESULTS]

Alright! All 24 legal entries have been sorted and classified. And here we've got some results.

First of all, I'm a little shocked (and proud) to announce that the benchmark car, the Suzume Hane GS, would have placed SECOND if it was allowed to compete. And the GS-R version would have been taken the crown. But alas, I run this competition, so they don't get that honor. To put the scores below in perspective, the Hane GS got 83.34%, and no cost penalties or bonuses.

Without further ado...

23rd - Mactori Genetima - 2.0L Inline 4 - "I Literally Can't Even" - 50.35%
22nd - PolMot Nuevo P - 1.5L Inline 6 - "Nothing Screams Sporty Like A Truck Frame" - 62.71%
21st - Desert Motors Z260 - 2.6L Inline 6 - "It's Like Deja Vu All Over Again" - 64.10% (5 cost penalties)
20th - Armada Talon - 2.0L Turbo Inline 6 - "Flawless Victory. Fatality. (Of the Driver, Anyway)" - 65.28%
19th - Hakone GT RS-T - 1.8L Turbo Inline 4 - "You Can Almost Take It To Kazakhstan. Almost." - 67.61%
18th - Centauri Puck - 0.9L Turbo Inline 4 - "Better Check Your Lapbelts When You Reach V1" - 68.41% (1 cost penalty)
17th - Toyoko Sundiamond MkII T16 - 2.0 Turbo Inline 4 - "Fails At Being As Deadly As The Armada" - 69.81% (5 cost penalties)
16th - Bogliq Butterfly Touring - 1.7L Inline 4 - "Even Sardines Need To Be Comfortable" - 70.75% (3 cost penalties)
15th - Rado IV GS - 1.6L Inline 4 - "For When You Want Your 4-Banger To Drink Like A V8" - 71.03% (5 cost penalties)
14th - DMA PR78C - 2.6L Inline 4 - "Arr, Rattle Me Brains, Bucko!" - 71.41% (5 cost penalties)
13th - Ponni Olympus Luce - 2.5L Inline 4 - "Sporty And Stealthy. Great For Running Over Neighborhood Children." - 73.73% (1 cost penalty)
12th - Seishido Achernar - 1.8L Inline 4 - "The Septagenarian's Sports Car: Cushy And Boxy." - 75.05% (5 cost penalties)
11th - FMU Colibri - 1.0L Inline 4 - "Gotta Floor It To Make The End Of The Onramp" - 75.37% (4 cost penalties)
10th - RAI Skipper A - 1.6L Turbo Inline 6 - "Micro Car. Mega Consumption." - 75.42%
9th - Tishillyman Tapana 2.0NB - 2.0L Inline 4 - "Looks Cheap. But It Really Isn't." - 76.10% (2 cost penalties)
8th - Romanov Raketa - 2.4L Inline 4 - "The Communists Failed At Cheap" - 76.28%
7th - PAW Murina - 1.6L Inline 4 - "Hit A Bump. Listen To Your Expensive Maraca." - 76.71% (5 cost BONUSES)
6th - Daiki 700L - 1.3L Inline 4 - "Wind It Up Over 100. I Dare You." - 77.51 (3 cost penalties)
5th - Rennen Angelus - 2.0L Inline 6 - "So Overly Average..." - 79.35% (1 cost penalty)

All scores include the noted cost penalties.

The top 4 cars scored 79.71%, 82.00%, 82.58%, and 83.82%. Of course, you have to stay tuned to find out who got which place!

Your top 4, in alphabetical order by manufacturer, are: Baltazar Quark FR445, GSI Mosquito, NMC K-Type Rallye, and ZM Gorizia.

Some interesting tidbits from the competition:

Best Drivability - Suzume
Worst Drivability - Mactori
Sportiest - Armada
Least Sporty - PolMot
Most Comfortable - FMU
Least Comfortable - DMA
Safest - Rado
Least Safe - PolMot

Total different body styles in the finale - FOUR!
Total different valvetrain configurations in the finale - FOUR!
Total different aspiration configurations in the finale - One (all 4-barrel naturally aspirated carbs, standard intake)

TOP 10!!! RAI Management is shocked after not being able to insert a V8 engine. Engineering, Financial Management, and Test Drivers applaud! Thanks for the rapid results!

I was looking for an even balance of many different commuter-like aspects, with the sport twist. The top cars did a good job at this balance. There were a few cars who were a little... aggressive... on the sport side. :D

Well you can clearly see that it was made in grandpa's barn in like 30 minutes using what he had, like the worst steel-like thingus and bubble gum to fit it together (not even chewing gum ). Almost every dollar went for the engine.

PS. I think that after my awesome performance I should lock my company on 10000 locks and never try to compete again.

WOO!!! Exactly what I was going for :D Too bad I cant get fuel economy to work right with carbs and historical stats, they just dont match at all :P Oh and cost was a bit............excessive :P Think I was $4 or $6 under the limit. Next time I am going to build my own car and try my hardest to not do a replica LOL.
