Re: BRC - Out of the Steam - 1945 [BUILD]

I'm in the process of updating to the Steam version as I write. Assuming that it will go alright (I never used Steam before), I will begin to work on my car tonight.
On a side note, I've been off the forum for the last couple of weeks and I'm surprised of how quiet things are in the competition sub-forum. I hope that things will go back to full throttle.

Great...I'm slower...I'm not actually surprised considering the fact that I use the slowest Pokemon* as an Avatar.

HA!, slowbro should be the slowest (only the first 3 season of pokemon are "real" to me)

Tycondero wrote:Thanks for the explanation. I'm often still trying to find the perfect balance for things. I have the game for a while now, but I'm not extremely knowledgeable about engines. I often wondered what would be better: given the same power output and displacement, whether to go for 4 or 8 cylinders. I guess 8 will definitely be less fuel economical.

The v8 also puts out more torque at the same RPM levels than other engines which really helps in the low end and for acceleration. Also, my v8 says 28.7 mpg :P

Ok, thanks. I will try to put in a small V8 and see how I do then. Well, fuel economy wise my I4 was better 32+ MPG (US), but it is a race after all, so I guess having more speed is better anyway.

Anyways, I'm too lazy to do it again. Maybe I'll make UMGaming and gus from Soltra happy by using full speed of Shuckle and taking last place

I'm guessing the two biggest factors are the new four-LUA save system and the uncertainty of how many people would sign up for the forums.

Entry sent. I wish it was fast enough to be competitive, but at least it's out there. The Stig will be driving, but he's only as good as the machine you put him in. He's been fed and watered every day this week, so I think he'll be on top of his game. Good luck everyone!

Re: BRC - Out of the Steam - 1945 [BUILD]

Unexpectedly just found an extra .5 mph for my top speed and a few other small tweaks.... there goes another 1 second lap time on all the tracks :)
Any word on when the next pre-season test will be?

My first design had a 9 liter 500 ftlb pushrod v8. this one's a lot faster.

Re: BRC - Out of the Steam - 1945 [BUILD]

2.8L V8 OHV and running under 1:50 on Airfield. Bigger V8's are going to slow you down a lot unless you're a pro-tuner, especially in 1945. There is so very little tech to rely on in the 1940s. Also, you have to keep in mind of the power/weight restriction. I pushed 175hp+ out of my little V8, but couldn't make my car fat enough to actually use it. In the end, I only have about 130hp for my entry.

I'm hardly a pro-tuner, so there are probably some who are pushing way better responsiveness and hp than I am, and getting way quicker times

oppositelock had a very fast car!

Re: BRC - Out of the Steam - 1945 [BUILD]

Jesus, what have I done..... .1kg changes can make for some large changes in suspension...... my car's power to weight ratio is sitting at 14.9988 and costs $6975.93........ I think this is a keeper 8-)
PS. hopefully I have not accidentally utilized any bugs in my design, I know for a fact I have played around with quality settings on every aspect of the car except tires and I have not used the safety bug to lower my cars weight (but I did use it to net .2 reliability)
