The Good, The Bad & The Ugly Week 2 - The Ugly

Sorry it took a while for this one. Think I've been sleeping. Anyway saw a comment today from Fernando Alonso about Ferrari's new F1 car that everyone has been calling ugly that Ferrari cars are never ugly and that the red colour makes them beautiful. You what? Maybe he hasn't seen the Ferrari 410 Superamerica Ghia which is the first choice for ugliness.

Now whatever angle you look at this car from its not pretty. Some people may disagree with me but a lot of people consider this the ugliest Ferrari ever. Not sure what Ghia's design department, who did this 410 Superamerica, were thinking back in 1956 in all honesty and why Ferrari allowed it to be released if they really don't make ugly cars. The front radiator grille seems to have tusks and am really not sure about the back either. And don't just take my word for it. The people in the picture look as baffled as everyone and the guy in the beard and sunglasses actually looks slightly ill. For what its worth this car had a 4.0L V12 engine and was rear-wheel drive as was the norm then. It had 334HP which was pretty good for 1956 and a top speed of 162mph. So a fast car then, but then it would need to be so nobody could see what you were driving before you zoomed past.

It reminds me of the 1956 Dodge Dart concept car....which is the prettier of the two. LOL

Yeah, the 410 is kinda ugly, but it's frustrating because I can see a really awesome looking car struggling to "get out" of that design. It's almost as if a manager higher up the chain has edited the designer's drawings, because he thought they weren't edgy enough or something...

Imagine the fins a bit lower, the roof a bit more streamlined, headlights more integrated, and front grill not as tall... it starts to look pretty good.

If you want an ugly ferrari... I present to you the one off 1953 166MM with Abarth coachwork

I think if you would combine the Dart and the 410 it would be a pretty cool car. :D
