Why can't a 2 liter engine fit in my 2 door sports coupe?

I used the first body that looks sporty, elongated it as much as possible, yet it won't fit the smallest engine I have. I've been having this problem for very long now, I can't even fit a 1 liter engine in half the time

Are you trying to mount it longitudinal or transverse? With 4WD?

When you're selecting the body what is your engine bay volume? And is it the very first body? The viper looking 2 door?

does it happen when you make a brand new car, or does it only happen when you swap from another car with a different engine bay? (smaller, or different location)
