Wings specifically for the front of the car

I was wondering if it's possible to get implemented front canards for the sides of the nose of cars?

The current system looks stupid (IMO) but front canards would look like what is actually done in RL high end performance cars and tuner cars. I am of the understanding that the look of the wing has no bearing on the function of the wing and therefore the biggest problem I forsee is that wings don't like to be fitted to the sides of the car rather than the horizontal surfaces. Another alternative would be a splitter/airdam option which could be mounted on the front bumper.

I feel this is valuable to Automation in that it will allow front aero which looks realistic and pleasant. My racers will look right and my tuned road cars'll look truly JDM :P

Re: Wings specifically for the front of the car

Could you post production car, non-tuned examples of what you mean?
Having more than one lip to choose from is definitely something we have in our plans anyway, as you might imagine ;)

That'd be reasonably easy to do visually at least.

Re: Wings specifically for the front of the car

The Koenigsegg sums my thoughts up best; the front canards and that seriously aggressive front splitter would make for MUCH more believable front aero than the current "wing on the bonnet" travesties ( :P ) we have to put up with at the moment!

I'm aware this isn't super important, it's just that I cannot uglify my car with a wing on the bonnet just for stats when in real life a car like that only appears on the track! If it can't be done then I'll be fine with that but if it's in any way possible to have front aero that looks correct as well as providing the stats then I want to jump up and down, make kitten-eyes and say PLEEEEASE!!!! until we get them! :D :ugeek: :D :ugeek: :D

Re: Wings specifically for the front of the car

They already have a lower splitter (in the Mod Pack), or at least something that looks like one. Only it isn't completely flat.

Only problem is that it has no aerodynamic value; front aero shouldn't make your car look like a painters ute! :P  :P

When beauty and function come together as one, the automotive gods rejoice and dance and plan Automation dlc that includes laser ignition, FIA restrictors, rotaries, LPG injected diesels and electric cars! :P  :P  :P

No aero value? Are you sure about that? I thought the one I was playing with yesterday had aero effect.

Re: Wings specifically for the front of the car

Wings and lips need an effective height assigned to them. The biggest wings have ~20cm, while I think the lip we have in vanilla public right now has 5cm. Giving them aero effect should be as simple as setting that number appropriately. We may still have that hardcoded into the game though (the effective height of aero fixtures).

Re: Wings specifically for the front of the car

What I notice in terms of stamping is that lips will go just about on any surface, but wings can't ve stamped on insufficiently horizontal surfaces up the front (the back is fair game). Is there a particular reason or workaround?

As for strakes and canards the blade vents in the community mod pack are brilliant at cosmetically emulating their purpose.
