fixtures suggestion

first off I would like to say I did try searching for subjects like mine but none matched with what I am trying to say. Also I am aware that there will be no major updates to the car designer until V1 is completed I just think this would be an awesome addition once the game is completed.

with that all said, I think It would be a cool feature to add if when you are editing your grills you had more then just height and width adjustments. like being able to select the corner of a grill and drag it out ( this of course would be mirrored on the other side ) . this would allow you to use headlights and place and morph a grill to fit around the headlight properly.

I will demonstrate what I mean, imagine if the X's are the outline of the grill and the Y is the point I am altering...

Re: fixtures suggestion

I'm not sure how you'd acheave that technically. I don't think skinning would work like it does on cars, as that'd be hell with the stamping stuff, as would morph targets.

this is what that fail was trying to say.

its basically 4 -6 pints around the grill that allow you to click and drag them to where you'd like them to be

Re: fixtures suggestion

Yeah, I understand the idea, for sure. I'm talking about the actual technical implimentation of it.

Re: fixtures suggestion

yea I figured you did daffy I just wanted to correct it.

like I said at this current time I think something like this is still a little advanced for the game but I dont see why something like this would be too difficult. after all if a ps2 game can have features similar to this I dont see why a modern computer game couldnt. Sure It would make creating the grills take a lot longer but the outcomes of the grills would be amazing. its very frequent that im looking for a grill to match up with my headlight and almost 100% of the time that just doesnt happen.

also this is just something I had thought of while I was playing with 3ds max. Im sure it will be a similar case if I actually tried to make a grill with multi points of deformation that I'd understand what your talking about ( after all im having issues with making a grill now )

Re: fixtures suggestion

It's not that it's physically impossible because of hardware or anything, it's that I'm not sure it'll work with the already quite scary complicated system that is required to stamp a fixture into the car.

I agree that it's a good idea. But I suspect it's not likely to work well.

Re: fixtures suggestion

Technically how? are you talking about skinning the grille to bones or...?

It's not just a 3ds max thing, it's a whole pile of code to deal with a really complex situation too.

Re: fixtures suggestion

oh ok sorry I didnt realize this would change coding. I took a small course on coding back in high school, that stuff isnt easy and im sure the stuff you guys deal with is way more complex then my grade 12 stuff haha.

well darn oh well it was a neat idea at the least haha.
