Carburetor is simply not viable afaik for Turbo since can't run much BOOOOOOST with them.

But for NA, while they offer slightly less performance, you save almost 2000$ that can be spent elsewhere, like +1 top end quality.

My car actually uses a I6 carb engine that gets 466HP. Its the same engine that Strop used for his performance test (since we exchanged cars for comparison).

strop wrote:@GenJeFT: Now that would be madness! We'd save money for sure, but... I wouldn't know what to put the money into!

(Though a 5 minute performance test reveals that an NA 3500cc i6 with quad DCOE would in fact yield... almost the same times... around the track... as my turbo... and save about 700 bucks...)

Problem is while I can make a good engine. The car I put it into is absolute crap. Well maybe next time.

Well you see, normally, if I had a lot of money in hand, that goes straight into the tyres. In unrestricted tournaments I tend to run the highest quality tyres I can afford to the point upgrading them would cost me more than upgrading everything else combined. The performance benefits are huge as they cover every which direction. Of course, that's why Leo, being very savvy, levelled the playing field by allowing only 5+ quality tyres. After that, what do I do? Maybe I sink the money into the aero, the transmission, then the brakes.

If you put my engine in your car would it still fit the price requirements for this race?

I did do a test to see if I could get a performance boost using the injection system as opposed to the carb but the mechanical injection is so expensive I had to compromise yet more on my crappy car body and I got a whooping .01 of a second boost on the airfield track with my car.

Re: Automation Touring Car Championship 2 [RACE THREE RESULT

Oh hell no, it blows my budget by like 2000 bucks. Even switching to performance intake to improve reliability and taking some money out still puts me well over budget. The main issue I think is that the bore and stroke are higher for same displacement, less cylinders and as a result the rpm limit drops. Using a v8 NA engine just seems to be the easy way out there, since I can get a carb engine to put out 480hp easy, more since I had so much money left over :?

My car is usually near average in all the stats... But then in the circuit is always on tail lol.

Race Four: Silverstone

Here are the results for the fourth race, sorry for the long time between races. Moving houses, it seems, is harder than expected.

Anyway, the results. They are as expected, very beneficial to the high powered, untame beasts. But, they must also have good traction out of some of the tricky slow corners.

To help and figure out why the cars did how they did, I add the 0-100 and the, useless, economy comparisons.

Re: Automation Touring Car Championship 2 [RACE FOUR RESULTS

Almost 30L/100km out of a 2L engine installed in a 1 ton car. That's slightly ridiculous.

Also, best accel, yeah! I wonder who has the highest top speed though.

Re: Automation Touring Car Championship 2 [RACE FOUR RESULTS

Hm, given this is one of the fastest tracks that's pretty consistent! Given the balance thus far, I should have gone for at least 20 more HP... But the remainder sure does remain to be seen.

Race Five Preview

Hey guys!

During the fifth race, held in iconic track in Ludwigshafen, Germany, one of the bystanders took a photo of the cars going by his apartment. Here it is:

Re: Automation Touring Car Championship 2 [RACE FOUR RESULTS

No worries, your pace with the races is good and quite impressing considering you're doing it while being in the middle of moving. Huge thanks for doing the ATCC series here. Thanks Pyrlix and Conan for the pic, nice work.

My car actually slipped into the upper half of the standings table, for now that is. Quite surprising, especially since, if I read them right, the graphs show the setup and aero are about as rubbish as I thought they would be. But the track shown in the picture will take care to move things somewhat back into expectations because I expect my entry will get beaten up badly by the other cars there (probably even by the ones seen parking in the pic above). :)

Race Five: Ludwigshafenring

Here are the results for the fifth race, which took place in the mighty Ludwigshafenring, as you can see above.

Since this is a street circuit, filled with potholes and tramlines, together with this race I give you the bottom out comparison.
Bottom out means that the suspension has reached the end of the wheel travel, on a car this is noticed by a very loud thunk in the cabin and some discomfort.
In the game, this is a factor on the tameness and comfort stat, it can be easily be lowered, by raising the ride height and thus the wheel travel. This gives the car a more comfortable ride and lowers the tameness penalty, however, cornering speed and aero efficiency are compromised. The latter makes both fuel economy and downforce worse. So it is a trade off, but one that is worth it, especially in bumpy, difficult tracks.

The lower the value, the better. This is the penalty that the bottom out had had on the car's tameness.
Image

Also, this has a massive straight, quite possibly the longest on the calendar. So here is the top speed comparison as well.
