I read recently that Mark Zuckerberg is seriously looking into implementing the dislike feature, simply because a lot of people want it. It probably won't happen. They'll probably be another feature that nobody wants, nobody will use and nobody cares about. That, or more ads. To be honest, it is posts like "my grandmother just died" that need a seperate button. It is not something I feel you "like".

I have been on many forums with an upvote/thanks/like button at the bottom of every post, and they are just there to be there. I believe it just shows appreciation without having to get everybody post the same "thank you" related post over and over again.

I too read that. But because I know he wouldnt add a dislike function I didnt mention it here.
He is seriously looking into a I respect that or Respect button, for those difficult 'I want to like but can't' posts.
I think a Like button for automation is enough.

An upvote feature would be pretty good, although I don't fully see how it'd be useful in the forum? Could you sort threads by upvotes, or how would anyone benefit from this?

It'd more or less be used to shun dumb people and praise quality posts, if they are interesting, helpful or humorous.

Instead of downvoting a post that isn't good, if the post warrants deletion or isn't within the guidelines, just report the post using the report button. We'll get a notification and take appropriate action.

I think we originally dismissed the downvote idea at the beginning of the thread. If this comes to be implemented, it would be upvote/like only.

Maybe with each upvote someone gets, they get a "forum score" or something along the lines of what they use on Car Throttle, maybe then it could be an encouragement for people to put thought into the posts they make.

Or maybe it's a bit too complicated with little benefit other than a popularity contest. Just a little idea.

I noticed, however, the report function doesn't really get used as often as it should be used, so just trying to remind people that that function is still there. Makes finding problematic users and threads much quicker and more efficient.

To Pleb, I think that could be implemented the way bimmerpost/other car forums have it. reputation regarding if your posts have been good or bad. A quick indication as to how valid one's post will be.

The rep system is a pretty good idea imho, it does give a quick and kind of reliable indication, because this community is pretty good. Not perfect, but easy to implement, i think it's a plugin

Even more importantly, a downvote feature would be useful for those posts that are within the forum rules, but everyone knows that they are terrible.
