Somebody else ought to verify that the challenge is possible, meaning double humiliation if they succeed and pleb fails :P

Ahem...

VicVictory wrote:I don't know if this as meant as encouragement or mocking, but I did it in 30 minutes... and in the process made it so that it can run on 91 RON fuel. :D

If I can do it and he can't, does that make it triple humiliation?

(though he does bring up a good point that I forgot to mention before -- when you issue a challenge, you should be making a benchmark car just in case you need to prove it's possible)

I made sure this challenge was possible before posting it (by completing it myself). I'll show you the screenshots as soon as i come home from work today (yes, i'm working at Christmas). I've already prepared the potential punishment, too :D

Re: Pay It Forward Design Challenge [Round 1 Challenges]

I know that Pleb is usually not one who likes fiddling with all the settings as he prefers pre-sets because it's faster that way. And because i know this, i decided to design a challenge which would make it so he has to do a bit more fine tuning :D

Re: Pay It Forward Design Challenge [Round 1 Challenges]

Oh wow..

I come back to this thread and hear that everyone has it in for me! I think today is my last chance to have another go at this since I'm gonna be too busy over Christmas to sit down at length and try it, so if I don't succeed today, quadruple humiliation is coming my way! :(

I haven't even thought up the next challenge..

Re: Pay It Forward Design Challenge [Round 1 Challenges]

Nothing personal, Pleb... I think the guys are just hoping someone fails. :D

Oh and TheTom... you'll probably be a little miffed to find out that this challenge CAN be pretty easily beat by presets in a few key areas...

Re: Pay It Forward Design Challenge [Round 1 Challenges]

I know, Vic. My aim was not so much to make him avoid presets entirely (if i were to create such a scenario, that would take a serious amount of time i imagine), but to make sure he would take his time and think about the possibilities and then figure out which one would be best. One preset should be pretty obvious even though personally i didn't use it when i completed the scenario myself. And given the amount of people who have tried this for themselves and succeeded, i don't feel the need to post my results.

Well, I've been pretty busy today, so I didn't actually get around to refining my car, so it will have to wait until either tomorrow evening, or Boxing Day. :(

Alright, but if it's not done by the end of the day on Boxing day, I'm calling it a failure and you have to move on....

Re: Pay It Forward Design Challenge [Round 1 Challenges]

Okay! After some anticipation, I have finally completed the challenge!

I realised that the issue was gearing. Everything else was fine. I had the gearing set to my needs, but then as I changed other things, I just left the gearing as it was, so after changing that my economy went from 4.98 to 4.47, and acceleration went to 9.8, and I just refined it from there!

Image

Damn, I was so worried that I'd fail, but I'll just put that behind me :P

Here's the challenge for Hermann95!

As I took too long to complete the last challenge, I won't put much thought into a story to go with my challenge for Hermann95.

Cottam Auto Group has just released a new GT car. The Cottam Parslow. It's a comfortable car with massive acceleration - 0-60 in just 3.2 seconds! And boasts an impressive 41mpg (6.9 lt/100km).

Image

It is now up to you - the cheap sub-brand of CAG, to make a cheaper version, with equally decent stats.

Requirements
Cost £20,000 or less
Man Hours 240 or less

Tameness 60+
Sportiness 40+
Comfort 30+
Prestige 45+
Safety 50+
Eco 6.5 lt/100km
Car Reliability 70+

You CAN'T Change:
Bodyshell (But feel free to change the fixtures)
Chassis Type
Engine Placement
Drive Type
Platform Quality

Anything on bottom end
Head and valves
Head material
Anything on turbo except for max boost
Fuel system/config/intake
Fuel type
Fuel quality
Anything on exhaust except exhaust diameter
Gearbox or ratios (you can change spacing and top speed)
Gearbox quality
Tyre compound
Brake calipers
Number of seats
Anything in suspension

You CAN Change:
Anything not mentioned in the above section.

If there's anything I haven't covered, or you are unsure about something, just ask! As far as I know, this challenge should be absolutely possible. I only tried it for about 20 minutes, but by that point all I needed was economy, and I think that will be the main challenge here.

Good luck!
