The motor is looking a little stressed now though.

Re: [NEW B1415] Automation Airfield Power Lap Times

a ha I see you too have cottoned onto the optimal aero setup for the Airfield. It really threw me for a loop, coz it's like a Nissan Deltawing. Also, try running these cars on Nordschleife, and more often than not, one finds that they crash xD

That alone has significantly dampened my desire to continue pushing to the maximum limits for the track, though I was making decent headway on catching up. There just seems to be a little less point if I can't translate these findings to other tracks, as I'm the kind of person who tunes a lot, yes, but find it really annoying to tune for every single track.

Re: [NEW B1415] Automation Airfield Power Lap Times

This did teach me a lot about how moving the wings on the car around affects the F/R balance of downforce. I may have gone a little overboard on it though.

*edit* as it's currently setup the buffalo manages a decently respectable 7:1.65 on the ring but I see what you mean.

Why did you -15 the chassis quality? See what you get if you make it 0?

I'll check it out tonight, I just finished throwing that together before work.

Re: [NEW B1415] Automation Airfield Power Lap Times

It costs me 2/10's, might just be that my suspension is optimized for the -15 setting but I couldn't find the extra time at a +0 setting.

Yeah, that'd be because the FR car like that has a balance of about 56/45 ish. The MR cars on the other hand have a ratio closer to 30/70, which, for a 1000kg car, means only about 300kg on the front, and going over a crest... I needn't link to some of my favourite UFO (Unintentional Flying Object) videos  With better downforce spec on the front the MR cars are easily good for 6:52 (or better, I haven't really looked into it all that much), and the F-AWD cars can manage a 6:53 too, depending on the body.

Interesting that your car doesn't do better with CF quality 0, that's the lightest setting with medium rigidity. Normally upping the quality ups rigidity which improves sport feel but actually generally makes the time worse, though again, haven't properly looked into that! Should do a comparative tune sometime because you'd think better chassis rigidity = better road holding... or does it...

For clarification, the record-setting Helldiver R does not use the van body.

Re: [NEW B1415] Automation Airfield Power Lap Times

Wow! that's like in a new class of time! Clearly either there was a paradigm shift or you're using a different body entirely!

Definitely not sure how you did that, nor whether I can match that in the remaining time for this current build (probably not). It kind of does make me curious as to how fast you can make the van go :P

Re: [NEW B1415] Automation Airfield Power Lap Times

This is the fastest I have gotten a car to go around this track. It is a complete race car.

I am proud to present the Tavshed SS8-Race

Image

It goes around the track in 1:10.65

Image

The car is powered by an 8.5 liter V8 making 1279 HP and 871 Lb-Ft which revs to 8,700 RPM.

I can probably displace some of the other record holders once I get around to actually messing suspension tuning.

Was able to drop my 1:10.60 to a 1:10.56 but I just don't think its possible to get a 1:10.5 rounded time in tech year 2014

Re: [NEW B1415] Automation Airfield Power Lap Times

I'm curious as to where that last 0.02-03s came from, I fiddled with my car using some of the tricks I learnt and pared it down to a 1:10.58 (which then changed to a 59 for reasons I haven't figured out). It's something to do with the various gaps in the slider adjustment and the balance, I suspect, but I agree, it looks like that's probably a limit.

(Also the balance changes again for 2015 which actually makes the car harder to tune!)
