Re: Weird habits ingame

I just realised, I tend to set my rpm limits to a few hundred over the point I'm getting bottom end failure warnings. Valve float is a no-no. Peak power is a must. I accept reliabilities of 30 or above for racing cars, so where it actually makes the car faster, I tend to push the rpm limit to that.

(The little v8 I put in the budget eco racer Mushu has a rev limit of 11000 and somehow returns a reliability of 50 even though I was rather judicious with the quality sluders, but peak power is actually somewhere around 8000rpm, so there's a huge about of superfluous rpm where the engine develops about 300hp all the way to redline, just because  )

EDIT: my god autocorrect, stop making me sound so rude!

Squarebore engines. I've become obsessed with them lately. And not just out of laziness. I have no idea what it is. SOMEONE HELP ME FOR THE LOVE OF PETE... er... STROP...

When it comes to boosting in this game, they can give you the best all round power to reliability and usability. I generally squarebore my unique turbo builds unless some other arbitrary criteria dictates otherwise.

I like to make big pushrod V8's and just see how far I can push them with carburetors :D

Re: Weird habits ingame

I very rarely use turbochargers. I don't like the sound they make and I don't like adding a lot of complexity.

I also leave quality at 0 for everything, unless I'm making something really expensive, in which case it goes no higher than 3 or 4 and only in those areas where lack of quality is just barely keeping me from a goal that I've set.

I'm very hesitant to design a new engine from the ground up for a new model, rather than tuning another engine for new specs. I'm perfectly fine using an engine that just gets the job done and isn't purpose-built for each car. (Maybe this isn't so weird here, it certainly is weird among my group of friends)

Re: Weird habits ingame

I almost always make Turbo engines, I have only done 2 non-turbo engine. I really like turbos ingame and IRL. :D

Re: Weird habits ingame

I tend to use straight six engines for most applications. I even have a small straight six engine for some of my less expensive designs. I found it to be comparable to a larger inline four design I originally had planned for the role, while being less expensive, less stressed, and more smooth.

Re: Weird habits ingame

I tend to only do inline 4, I tend to make them cheap but still relatively effective and economic. Even when working with a sports car. My sports car currently gets about 40 mpg even though it costs pennies and can achieve over 200 mph.

Originally I made things that were really expensive, but as soon as I noticed that material cost wasn't all that effected final cost, they got really cheap. Anyone care for a 10k USD sports car? :)

Re: Weird habits ingame

I try to make all of the cars headlights triangular, because that was how I trademarked my cars when I drew them IRL.
