Re: Peoples Republic of Comrade Underground Cup [raceday!]

I really liked this formula of taking a car and tuning it with strict and yet free rules. Shame that our car was second though. But hey, it is a podium finish :D

And there might be a competition of mine coming on the near future, stay tuned!

Eh, could've gone better, but I'm still happy; it was fun to mess about with the Clunkers. I'm definitely up for another race in the future, whenever that may b :D

let me double check my excel doc

the tenths of a second of a couple of the race results got mixed up, I corrected the post. There was no difference in the standings. I apologize for any confusion.

Re: Peoples Republic of Comrade Underground Cup [View Result

Thanks everybody! It was a learning curve with it being my first competition and some tweaking had to be done here and there in regard to rules (the first poll :-p) I had a blast. Hopefully everyone else did as well!

Wow! Excellent job reaper, you took me by surprise and taught me something about the uses of an i6 in such a situation. It must have been cheaper and therefore more ability to put improvements elsewhere! That's an outstanding time for the budget.

However I am personally most glad at nabbing the overpowered award hehe. To be honest the engine , while the size of a v8 supercar touring block, had at least a little room left. I just kind of overdeveloped it

Re: Peoples Republic of Comrade Underground Cup [View Result

I'm unsurprised with my result as I chose to closely model my car on what could have been theoretically feasible for your average Comrade citizen to achieve. Since my competition company has Communist history links but a more relaxed attitude towards automobile ownership, I used that link to make up a plausible back-story to justify any changes I made. I also kept the engine bay relatively the same so that if an inspector looked in the bay they'd still be (relatively) unaware of the changes (especially since he has to drive the car to work everyday, ).

I did an alternate variant that used only the clunker and part changes that could have been done by the owner and that was at least 8 sec faster around the track than the stock car!

Basically I had so much fun in my self created story that the result is irrelevant; my reward was in the participation :D

I'm looking forward to more of these comps as having a roleplay element really puts spice into what can become a painfully formulaic challenge! :ugeek:

Originally I had written off I6s completely due to their length restricting the bore size needed for a bigger engine and would have entered with what was currently my best engine, an NA V8, but when np1993 said that there were no I6s I gave a serious attempt at one out just to see what they would be like. The turbo I6 was a lot better Than I expected because it could just about squeeze into the engine bay with a sensible bore and stroke while costing way less than the turbo V8 because it only used one turbo. Also, because it had 6 cylinders feeding the turbo rather than 4, it could cope with the cheaper bearing far more easily. The resulting engine was actually about 30bhp down on my NA V8 but because it was so much lighter it was a lot faster.

I'm definitely going to be looking into the i6es a bit more in future, previously I've had trouble with them and don't think I've fully tapped into their potential in all situations. Exciting!

Re: Peoples Republic of Comrade Underground Cup [View Result

I personally like them a lot of great cars had I6's under the hood, and most of them are turbo'd.
