I get that, my car is actually fairly balanced. It's not a race car with sub 10 comfort or something like that. Thing is making it more balanced across the board (like adding luxury interior (out of all things), putting quality into safety, improving prestige in general) improves other groups much more than the group I actually aim at and not to mention this stuff isn't exactly free, it becomes rather pointless improvement if I simply price myself out of the target group. Tameness/sportiness balance seems pretty good, exchanging one for another doesn't really change my score in MS. I'm just trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong or if is this particular group simply scoring lower compared to other groups in general (then again I'd expect difference between this and sub 10 sportiness family car to be little bit bigger). I guess I could also check if I didn't somehow mess up my calculation sheet by accident.

From what I see in the current entries, scores are not significantly lower in that category. You must be doing something wrong then. :P ;)
Maybe in the future I'll increase the weigt on sportiness a bit more, but let's see how the results turn out in this round.

And of course the scoring point scheme in the spreadsheet has changed so much since the last version that it's difficult for me to tell if I'm making something right.

I mean, I have an inkling... but that's about it.

And just to be sure following the debate about tech, is it ok to unlock better options by using higher quality, of course all legitimely in game? I recall some options can be unlocked with quality and some only with year.

Quality is fine, techpool is not.

The reason I brought up the point is that with the current version of the game, the only way you should be able to get techpool is through lua file editing. However, I found a way of getting techpool without lua file editing which someone could very easily do by mistake and end up unknowingly getting their car banned.

I'm fairly sure I could get better profile tyres in the first ctc challenge just by increasing quality without ever touching the year, not sure about other thigs as I don't have access to the game right now. But I would consider getting new options this way legit, that's why I'm asking.

Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #4 - 1977 [BUILD]

Here are my two entries for CTC4

Entry 1
In 1976 MGCC face lifted their 1973 Mirage Model with a new look grill, revised front and rear lighting, , flush door handles, new interior designs and a refreshed engine range.
For MY1977 their highest trim level was re-introduced, the "Super-6" featuring a revised 6 Cylinder engine as denoted by the trim name.

Entry 2
MGCC introduced the Mark II Angio. This was an all new design which carried over nothing from its predecessor but sported the new family look introduced on the '76 Mirage as well as some of it's own 'quirky' styling.
The 1.2s is aimed at the budget conscious, but not limited, driver and slotted in above the lower spec 1.0e

Made a bunch of candidates, don't know which of the two I'll pick yet. Showing them off anyway. All are loosely based on real life cars, my usual M.O. :P Like Grand Theft Auto, the names are parodies of their real-life counterparts.

Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #4 - 1977 [BUILD]

It's time for Ardent Motors to put forth its entries.

First, we have the Ardent Olympic.

Ardent Olympic.jpg
Ardent Olympic.jpg (68.12 KiB) Viewed 3882 times

Ardent brings a personal touch to luxury with the Olympic. Propelled by a buttery smooth yet powerful TB8-D-GT Taurus V8, this premium coupe is ready to carve up winding roads by day and soak up the limelight when it hits the town. That is, if you feel so inclined to stop in town. With a remarkably quiet, supple ride provided by Ardent's engineers, and standard features such as a digitally tuned AM/FM/Cassette radio with 12 presets and equalizer, leather sport-back bucket seats, air conditioning, and an automatic transmission, you may find the journey to be the worthier part of your adventure. Your dreams are at your fingertips. You just need to reach out. When choosing your next vehicle, be more than savvy. Be Ardent.

Then there's the Ardent Piper SE.

Ardent Piper SE.jpg

So much more than 2 doors. There's a new bird in town for 1977, joining the 2-door Piper sedan. Ardent's new hatchback body gives you more versatility than before. Rear seat passengers will appreciate the enhanced head room, while the driver will enjoy a smooth, even ride. Motivated by the same tried-and-true squarebore CA4-A 4-cylinder Cygnus-series motor, you won't have to worry about breaking the bank at the pump. Or the garage. Also new for 1977 is a new top-of-the-line SE trim. It includes all of the same standard safety and comfort features of the DL, plus a tachometer, in-dash clock, AM/FM/Cassette radio, and more. Truly, this makes the Piper SE to be the whole package. And more. So when choosing your next vehicle, be more than wise. Be Ardent.

Yes you can get lower profile tyres by increasing the quality. As far as I'm aware this is OK

There is another bug with this though. You have to increase the quality of the tyres by 4 to 'unlock' the next lowest tyre profile. However, if you then reduce the quality back down to three or even two you keep this lower profile tyre. Increasing the quality from two to three removes the low profile tyres again. I've not explained it very well so if you're confused just watch the minimum tyre profile as you increase it from 0-4, then decrease to 2, then increase to 3.

This is already monitored by Der Bayer iirc, his anti-cheat script looks for this sort of "free techpool", or atleast as far as I understood.

No because this isn't a cheat. It's a game bug. The file will read normally. The free tech cheat has nothing to do with it. Free tech cheating has been explain.

The Aichi Pursuer was designed to provide buyers with the luxury of the flagship Aichi Tiara, but with a lower tax liability, and a sportier ride. A 4-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension, premium upholstery, and a 2.0-liter straight-6 with a 2-bbl carb tuned for fuel efficiency complete the package.

The Prost 289 S is the ultimate GT car. Originally designed to replace the company's 119 sports car, the 289 S combines the power, poise, and handling of a sports car, with the refinement, comfort, and equipment of a luxury car. It's mechanical-injected, 4.7-liter SOHC V8 produces "sufficient" power to push the car past the 170-mph mark with relative ease.

edit:
Honorable mentions:
* The Victory VR8, and VR7 Speed twins, I think, are the best looking. But for the price I was looking to sell them for, I don't think I could make them as profitable as the two I chose.
* The Carter Chateau is easily the most comfortable/luxurious... but with ZERO sportiness (not an exaggeration), I thought it better to enter a more balanced car.
* The Echo23 M102 came very close to entering... but with similar stats to the Aichi Pursuer, it made sense to take the cheaper of the two.
* The Eagle Rock Eviscer8 was the most expensive car I ever made at $88,000 in 1977 dollars. The name alone is worth the price of admission! However, like its doppelganger, it's not economically-viable. The stats were also nearly identical to the Prost 289 S, albeit with higher prestige.
* The Bravo Sierra Kilo MegaTurbo is a likable car. With sportiness that rivals the Victory cars, and for a cheaper price, it's the ultimate sleeper. If we could choose 3 cars, this would have been my 3rd entry, but since we're limited to 2, it had to be excised.
