Re: Looking for New Beta Testers! (Applications Open)

I am Kristina, and live in Atlanta, GA, USA. I'm probably a bit older than the average user here, but perhaps not the oldest? ;) I would like to be a Beta Tester for Automation, but it seems there is already a long line of those willing to help. I pre-ordered Automation only recently, this past December, but have spent many hours playing since. I especially enjoy making custom tracks to share with the community to use. Additionally, I am already added as a contributor to the AutomationWiki, though it seems to be having some problems of late. I am an IT professional with both field (Tier 2 currently) and help desk (Tier 2-3) experience working with ticketing systems and documenting problems found. I am also a C/C++/Java/PHP/HTML programmer, so I can comprehend how things are "supposed" to work, and understand debugging processes. I have a high attention to detail, serious when it is necessary, but am also a fun person! I have beta-tested games before, but the most recent one was Hacker: Evolution, a small game from Romania, in 2007. Anyway, I hope I get chosen for the trial and think I would be an excellent addition to the team.

Plus, KillRob's voice is so sexy! I love watching the YouTube videos just to hear it!

Re: Looking for New Beta Testers! (Applications Open)

WOOOOOHOOOOO! YEAH! YEAH!
Sorry, I had to have my 'happy moment'.

Okay, here goes.

I've been playing Automation since about July (give or take) 2013, my old account being "DerpinEngineer".
I love Automation, and I would love to do anything I can to help make Automation a truly fantastic simulator for people who actually want to build cars in a realistic environment. I can dedicate LOTS of time to Automation, perhaps even 10 hours a week!

I am only 12 years of age (13 by the time the 22nd comes), but that doesn't hold me back! Most people believe that 12 year olds are dumb and annoying, but that only applies to MOST of us. :D I will admit, I will have loads of fun with this beta testing period (Who wouldn't?), but I will still get my job done well and hopefully become a permanent beta tester! Once again, I will have plenty o fun with this, but I'm still extremely capable of doing my job well. Please give me a chance, and you won't regret it!

Sincerely (Yay!),
ronnie4444

EDIT: You said "just having fun", and I will obviously have fun, but also get my job done. I understand that this isn't JUST a fun thing, that beta testing can be non-fun, that I am to post what I find in tools provided (Google Spreadsheets!), that I am to spend more than 1 hour per week of testing plus 5 hours for the trial period, and that I am to follow the strict testing rules. Should I happen to disobey the 5 commandments (Haha, just kidding. I mean the rules laid out), you may remove my tester status or place a seal of fail on my company logo or take away my virtual cookie, but I'm pretty sure that won't happen. Just an honest 12 year old looking to be noticed! :D

Re: Looking for New Beta Testers! (Applications Open)

I would love to be part of the beta testing team, I'm able to access the game usually from 7:30 PM (GMT+1) on.

I'm really an engine-addicted so i really like the technic nature of automation, and i'd like to help polish out the game, both graphically and technically, plus i find the point-reward method really attractive. When i start doing something that I like or that grabs my attention, i usually didn't stop until i reached the maximum that i can do or give to that task (E.G: Doing a hundred lap on time attack mode in a game, in order to achieve the best possible time for my skills).

I sincerely hope to be chosen from you to lend an helping hand for the realisation of the game.

Re: Looking for New Beta Testers! (Applications Open)

Hello and good evening.

My name is Bryant and I would like to be a part of the beta testing team for Automation. Why am I a good candidate? I've beta tested many mods for games and been a part of public betas where critical and detailed feedback is required. My most recent beta testing role was with an rFactor mod called SP Mod. This mod was based around absolute realism in terms of the physics (or at least as real as can be for the rFactor engine) and thus required extreme amounts of detailed feedback. Based on mine and a few others feedback of the mod, it is now one of the more popular mods used in the rFactor drifting community.

In addition to my previous beta testing roles, I have been infatuated with cars all of my life. From the moment my father took me to my first IMSA race at Road Atlanta in 1991, cars have been my life. I work as a photographer for a drifting media outlet currently and hold a bachelor's degree in administrative management. When I'm not sitting at home or doing normal life things, I am out at a local drift event as an instructor.

I hope that my passion for cars and attention to detail can assist the developers in making what is in my mind the absolute dream game.

Sincerely,

Bryant

Re: Looking for New Beta Testers! (Applications Open)

Hello,

I would be interested in participating in your Beta Testing period. I am very methodical with gameplay critique and College educated, so bug reports would be well written.

I am familiar with the game, having pre-ordered when only the engine designer was available. I have even done a couple videos on my YouTube Channel. This means I have the ability to record specific gameplay bugs to attach with reports giving a better view of potential issues.

By trade I am an Automotive Technician having worked with several German manufacturers, meaning I have hand-on knowledge of the game content.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Re: Looking for New Beta Testers! (Applications Open)

Since I have a lot of free time on my hands, I can invest more than just 1 hour per week for bug finding and scenario testing for Automation. I'm also very organized and am definitely willing to document bugs in an organized fashion. If I am selected for the beta testing trial, I will have fun with it - whether or not it is fun, I will make it fun some how, which should increase my ability to spot bugs and stay motivated. My hours are very flexible since it is summer time here, so I can be working anywhere from 8 AM to 12 AM the next day. It would be nice to get to test out these new features before anyone else, but it also needs to remain helpful to the Automation team. If it's needed for instant communication, I do have Skype and Windows Live Messenger (if that's what it's called now). Thank you for reading my application!

Re: Looking for New Beta Testers! (Applications Open)

Very interested.
I would very much like to be involved in the upcoming Beta test as I would like to be a part of the development process either with just feedback or even ideas. Been following this game before my pre-order and can see a lot of promise, I see a game only at its conception and already a great game in itself and believe it could grow in to something great. This game can be so much more in the future after its initial development and I believe I could help. I as well believe further down the road I could possibly be a more promising asset to the developers and their craft. I very much hope you will consider me for beta testing as this is a game I have the up most hopes for. I have hours a day after work or when I am not doing video for my other YouTube channel. I can average more than 5 hours a week easily. I have a strong ability to spot out of place entities or bugs, being 26 I have extensive experience with PC gaming and alpha/beta testing. I as well have solid critique and writing skill to assist in reports if necessary and I am easily reachable either with email, Skype, TS3 or Facebook. Thank you for your consideration and I hope to be a part of the Beta process.

Re: Looking for New Beta Testers! (Applications Open)

Dear Devs

I would like to apply for a beta tester role for Automation.
My Background is in IT with over 20 years experience. I recently spent a couple of years developing and supporting a custom workflow tool for my employer.
Although my free time varies I am fully able to commit to your requirement of 1 hour min testing a week, most certainly I am able to perform much more.

I found the game while searching for a good Car Tycoon game a couple of years ago and pre-order almost straight away. I play the game quite often and like to experiment with body designs and fixtures, tweak and refine favourite designs and then go for something "obscure" just to see what I can achieve.
In my head I am already running my car company. A lot of my designs aim to be a linear progression of a model line even though such things do not yet exist in the game.

I have participated often in discussions on the forums, have offered suggestions, asked questions and reported issues I have seen already as I believe in this game to become the one true tycoon game we have all been waiting for and I want to help make it so.

Sincerely

Maffc

Re: Looking for New Beta Testers! (Applications Open)

After some consideration, I've decided to apply for a position as Beta Tester for Automation.

First, I'll address the prerequisites:

  • I have preordered Automation, my forum rank will confirm this (the prospect of V16s was far too tempting to resist)
  • I am so completely hooked on this game that I spend on average 1 hour per day on exploring endless iterations and permutations of the variables in scenarios, platform builder, engine builder and model builder. I anticipate I will be able to do this for another 2 months, before I start studying for more exams.

As for the other criteria, in real life I am a doctor (currently a medical registrar in a metropolitan hospital). The only reason I mention this is because my job requires me to be meticulous and thorough, but also efficient and well organised, and I like to think that take my job seriously, so those characteristics have been well developed. I'm confident that these are well reflected in my participation in the forum activities so far: that my contributions sit at the top of most leaderboards is only the result of exploration of every single possible variable and combination, yet I would also like to stress that it is through sharing and discussion with other users that we have collectively shed insight onto the intimate workings of the simulation. If there's an anomaly to be found, not just bugs, but also unexpected outcomes from the workings of the simulation, you can bet I'll not only find it, but report it.

My previous experience includes Beta testing the rebuild of the Armor Games forums, where I've been a moderator since 2008 (I scaled back my involvement with the community in 2012 and submitted my intentions to quit as a moderator but the administrators laughed at me and refused to downgrade my account saying it wouldn't do justice to the history of the community or something...) From this I've gained a good grasp of being able to comb over the tiny little details for the benefit of the bigger picture, so I'll be able to assess each part of the simulation with regard to the developers' own goals.

Simply put, I love this game, what it does already, and what it aims to do. Previously, I thought the best way for me to contribute to the game would simply be to use it and discover through interaction with the rest of the community, and that's been a fantastic experience so far. Killrob can attest to just how into it I've gotten! Here, I see an opportunity to further that contribution, and it would be an honour to play a part in the development process through Beta testing.

Re: Looking for New Beta Testers! (Applications Open)

Alright, here we go. (Cooper Jr.)

For the basic, quantitative information about me:

I have an average of 2-5 hours for free during the day. This is split between a couple of activities, like working on our Mustang, studying for future tests, and playing various games.
I would not expect to be able to test 2-5 hours a day; what I would expect out of me is a minimum of 3 hours of testing a week. A more probable average would be between 7-9.
I would like to make this clear right now: This only applies during the summer. When school starts again for me in 2 months, expect a mean of 2 hours a week. Many times I will be able to do more. However, one in about 4 weeks, I might only be able to find half an hour to test. If you want consistent, every week, one hour or more, I am not the person. However, you can anticipate that over 52 weeks I will be able to get over 120 hours of testing.

Also, and this may disqualify me completely: I have not used Pivotal Tracker. I did some research, and it seems like I could fairly easily figure it out.

As for qualitative information:

I am an outright car nut. I love automation simply because at any time I can hop in game and simply play. I am fine with the little games that you can simply hop in, have fun with for an hour, and get bored with; I do not form any form of attachment with these. I have, very much so, gotten into Automation because I will always be a car person. I will always be able to play Automation, especially since it is a game in which you create content, thus a game in which the limit is not really a limit. Once the campaign is out and I finish, I will not stop playing because I can make a new company. I will not stop playing the pure engine creator, because I can make so many different engines. Improvements could be endlessly had, and so would be the case with the car designer only doubly so, and many more times than double with the campaign.

I realize I haven't made it clear why I am interested in being, specifically, a beta tester. There are two reasons I can narrow it down to.

1. (This is quite simple) Making it a better game.
Cheesy? Yes. Any less true because of it? No. I am not so self-interested to say right now that I would make this a better game by being a beta tester; that is for you guys to decide. I am interested in trying to make it a better game, and you guys are the deciders about whether or not my effort would produce improvements enough to warrant me being made one. I believe that I could potentially help, otherwise I would not be posting here.

2. I want to say I helped them make that.
Utterly selfish. I realize how selfish that sounds. I want to be able to look at something and say I truly made a difference. Whether or not I would is, once again, your decision. The reason behind this reason for me wanting to be a beta tester is simple: I look around and see that I want to have more... things I've done. This is somewhat difficult to explain, but I look around at what I've done and I ask myself, "What does any of this do?" I've worked on a Mustang. Cool? To me, yes, but productive, definitely no. Same with the 2501 Parker and the little dune buggy. I want to be able to say I helped someone with something that made a difference to more than at most 20 people. Simple, selfish, and perhaps understandable?

Cheers!

Re: Looking for New Beta Testers! (Applications Open)

After thinking this through carefully I have decided that I should apply for a job as a beta tester for this game.

Although over time I have come and gone from this game playing it in intervals, I feel that being somewhat responsible in the further development of this game is more than possible. Having this responsibility that I must fulfil will not just keep me playing this game but will also help me learn skills and knowledge in the development of gaming, something I have always wanted to know more about.

I have done some form of private beta testing before for vehicles and terrains being devloped for the game Rigs of Rods and I fully understand the importance of not just playing about with private versions of a game that nobody else has, showing it off and laughing in the faces of those who have not been granted access to it. I know the private beta testing is massively important to developers and creators, and giving the as much feedback as possible is key. When I beta tested some vehicles for Rigs of Rods, I would pick out on every single detail that I felt was not quite up to standards, being a small mesh issue or poor handling characteristics, and although this may sound harsh and picky, but I feel (and I am pretty sure the developers agree with this) that the only way you can make a great game is by "ironing out" a the little bugs and glitches as well as the big ones.

Another reason why I feel that I could be suited for the task is my experience with the game and the Automation community. I have been playing the game now for 18 months roughly and I most certainly know my way around the game. I have found multiple bugs and glitches with the game as time has gone by, some of which remain even today. Also, I feel I have gained trust and a reasonable relation with the developers and other beta testers in the game over this period, as well as with the rest of the members of the Automation community.

Now, the amount of time I have free does vary but is more than sufficient for being a beta tester. Now school has finished I have massive amounts of free time. Obviously I dedicate the free time to many things, but with this added responsibility I can dedicate a fair part of it to beta testing, and if I really enjoy doing it, perhaps even more. Right now I could easily do 10-15 hours a week of beta teating. Some days I might not do any beta testing at all due to going out somewhere or whatever else crops up, but I should certainly exceed the required amount. When school starts back up, I should be able to dedicate 5-10 hours a week, perhaps more, towards the development of this game

That is all I can think of for now. Thanks for everything developers :) (and I hope you enjoyed your trip to Europe)
