Platinum Automotive Company

Opening it's doors in 1975, the Platinum Automotive Company (or PtAC for short) began as a small operation wanting to compete with the top selling companies of the world. While the company also aspires to operate a motorsports arm, the early years of the company forced them to focus almost exclusively on just getting the funds to support such an extension. As such, the cars were cheap, relatively reliable, economical, and above all else: safe.

Current Season/Year: Spring, 1975
Current Model Lineup*: 1975 Tuna 1.6, 1975 Tuna 2.0, 1978 Goldeye 3.2

Past Models*: none yet

*Any vehicle in bold is a motorsports oriented vehicle sold only in small quantity. Bold and underlined vehicles are pure racing cars only sold to special applicants.

Re: Platinum Automotive Company

The first car ever sold to the general public by PtAC, starting in the spring of 1975, the Platinum Tuna 1.6 is a lightweight, cheap, reliable, and economical hatchback. However, it can never be said that the car is unsafe, as only the most advanced safety systems of the 70's were installed, along with power steering (ABS not included)!

Tameness: 25.4
Sportiness: 1.6
Comfort: 23.2
Prestige: 10.0
Safety: 21.3

Automation Test Track Time: 195.69
Airfield Track Time: 118.81

While the 1.6L engine allowed the Tuna to launch the company, the 2.0L inline 4 engine was a massive upgrade for the car. Gaining over 40% more power, the Tuna 2.0 even managed to get slightly more economical at just a slight cost in weight. The increased power had a tremendous effect on just about everything, allowing the car to blitz past its slower sibling. Another improvement was an increased tire width, going from 165mm to 175mm, allowing greater cornering ability.

Tameness: 30.9 (+5.5)
Sportiness: 0.9 (-0.7)
Comfort: 26.5 (+3.3)
Prestige: 11.9 (+1.9)
Safety: 21.9 (+0.6)

Automation Test Track Time: 185.85 (-9.84)
Airfield Track Time: 113.17 (-5.64)

Sadly, this is all I can think of when you wrote "Platimun Tuna"

Re: Platinum Automotive Company

Ha! Nice one. Yes, I was actually going for the idea that my cars use different names of fish. But considering this is just the most basic level of car, it didn't deserve something like swordfish, or even salmon. I'm actually going to be using the Tuna as the base for my Demo 1600 car (though modified to get some 205s on the front, along with a few more minor modifications).

Re: Platinum Automotive Company

In 1978, Platinum unveiled their newest car to the lineup, the Platinum Goldeye. Equipped with a 3.2L naturally aspirated inline 6, the car accelerates to 62mph in 8.10 seconds. With a top speed of 135.5mph and an ability to still get 26.8mpg, this car is actually pretty speedy and economical, all the while having some new styling cues for the company, such as the side exhausts! The lightweight Goldeye (2401.7lb) also can pull sub 1:40's at the airfield test track while being one of the safest cars on the road today! Speaking of safety, no expense was saved putting in the most advanced safety systems of the decade, including power steering and ABS.

Sportiness: 14.2
Comfort: 32.8
Prestige: 19.1
Safety: 23.5

Re: Platinum Automotive Company

Aw, and here I thought I was being original for once! Hopefully we aren't going to end up using the same names often... I call swordfish! Actually I've been planning on using that name since I started trying to name my cars... just nothing good enough yet to be worth calling that.
