Classic Trans-AM / Touring Car challenge!

So the next update to my engines would include two for the 1966 Trans-AM (USA) Touring Car (Everywhere else) season, and I wondered if anyone would be interested in a build challenge? A under 2000cc class, low weight high response examples the mk1 escort, mini cooper, alfa GTA. and a over 2000 under 5000cc class heavy but big power, examples camaro, falcon, mustang, Commodore.
If there are people interested I'll start thinking up rules and points.

First try at this, if anyone has feedback or suggestions feel free to voice them.

Re: Classic Trans-AM / Touring Car challenge?

Here's my entrys.

Firstly for the under 2000cc class, I tried to make an I6 because I'm obsessed but couldn't get a result I was happy with so decided to go with the I4

Second for the 2000-5000cc class, I decided to make an I6 because I'm obsessed and I wanted to see how it'll compare to the slew of 5L V8's we're about to see.
I expect I wont be able to match the V8's for power but I'm hoping for a lighter weight which would have its own advantages in a race!!

Excellent entries! I'm impressed with the stats of that 4 cylinder, a very well rounded motor :). As for the straight 6 most likely yes it will be eclipsed in raw power and on the straights, but that's a nice torque curve at the high end and well paired gear box should be able to exploit that top end powerband.. A good start off to this field.

Re: Classic Trans-AM / Touring Car challenge?

Alright, I decided just to go hog wild on this one, so a 40V DOHC setup was in ;) I'm interested to see how this will compete.

Edit: No reining back here! I managed to get it above the 26,000 mi MTBF, and got an extra 21 hp and 12 lb/ft of torque!
Edit again! An extra 7 horsepower to remain the power king ;)
Edit again again: Extra 1 hp to remain the engine king ;)

Hog wild indeed, somewhere out there at least 500 lucky yet terrified drivers are trying to not eat up what I can only imagine to be very expensive rear tires at every stoplight. The power wars have begun! Using my very crude guide stick of engine weight divided by horsepower this is one of the highest output classic engines I've come across. Well done. Now everyone else keep tuning, we have a racing field to fill here.

iiinteresting.. for future reference, having requirements displayed in both metric and imperial might be beneficial for those of us (myself included) that don't use the imperial system if i can get around it

Re: Classic Trans-AM / Touring Car challenge!

I was just comparing gt1's engine to mine and lamenting how badly I've lost that race and I just noticed that gt1's engine doesn't meet the MTBF requirements.
I was losing the race, but then he broke down on the last lap =p

I only had 2 rules that used any system, however I have now posted the MTBF in kilometers as well.

Good spotting. Well gt1, looks like you'll have to reign that beast back a bit, and pull another 950miles/1550km out of it.

Oh, I thought it was 25,000 mi MTBF! I will fix that now, and maybe see if I can get a couple more HP out of it ;)

Edited. No reigning back was necessary, I actually got more out of it ;)

Our judges are still debating on your 1cc violation, impressive work none the less.
