Re: Will DLC cost extra?

It could actually be depending on the content. I don't think semi-trucks are a problem, as today's manufacturers don't always make big rigs and do go well. That would just be an extra market, so it could be available to the IA.

Like said before, I'd probably pay 5$ for extra content, especially car bodies and fixtures. But maybe no more than it, especially if the pack isn't really big.
Otherwise, I actually could spend 15-20$ for Diesels and Wankel (20$ for both), and maybe 30-35$ for a major expansion like, you know, BIKES ! :D

Just look at GTA IV and Saints Row :
GTA IV has released big DLCs for somewhat 20$. They sold very well as it was somewhat as long for the price as the main game.
Saints Row releases a lot of inexpensive stuff like 0.99$ a new and funny weapon. That allows us to occasionally pay for something, so we don't pay that much at a time.

Besides that, would there be a "Season Pass" for DLCs ? What about the preorder & collector editions ? Would they pay a little less ?

Re: Will DLC cost extra?

Oh btw, just one thing. You CAN NOT compare GTA V or any triple A title to this game :P Budget, team, marketshare, targetaudience, too many HUGE differences!
I think this game does well selling 5 dollar DLC or really big packs for 10 dollar, but nothing more. Season passes would be great for when you want to get the first 5 DLC for lets say 20 dollars.

Re: Will DLC cost extra?

I know, I can't compare. This game's a lot better. :P

Seriously, I said that to show that a game can sell 1/3 its price in DLCs without any problems. And as this game costs 30$, adding 40$ worth of DLCs just takes it to the price of current-gen games.
Of course, the price will depend on the amount of future DLCs. I think all its DLCs for 3/4 of the game's price is still fine. After all, this amount of content just makes some kind of sequel.

And anyway it'll always be better than a million dollars for two CoD maps or 5 Forza cars.

Just asking: is there a list somewhere with how many people already ordered automation? Ore an estimation maybe ?

You can calculate for yourself by looking into the members list of the forums and sorting the people by their forum rank. Currently more than 8000 people have preordered the game. :)

Daffyflyer wrote:Oh god yeah, we're not going to charge a third of the price of the game for one extra engine type I don't think, that'd be a bit excessive.

From the Game at Launch thread, there are this many DLC packs and items planned:

• W8, W12, W16, W18
• Wankel Rotaries
• Flat 8
• Inline 8
• V4
• Two Strokes
• Diesels
• Hybrids
• Electric

I imagine this'll all add up to $45 of DLC (at $5 each)? I'd buy all of them, hands down. Maybe there would even be a deal for that? Buy all 9 and get them for the price of 7 or 8? I don't know, I'll just buy it...

Re: Will DLC cost extra?

Of course we have no real idea about either pricing, if any DLC packs are going to happen at all, or when they would come out. To give you a bit of perspective on things though, here are my estimates for how much time it would take to develop the content with our current manpower and Automation 1.0 completely finished, focusing only on the listed feature:

• W8, W12, W16, W18 (3-4 months)
• Wankel Rotaries (4-6 months) (requires new Engine Designer)
• Boxer 8, Inline 8, Inline 2, V4 (2 months)
• Two Strokes (4-6 months) (requires new Engine Designer)
• Diesels (4-6 months) (requires new Engine Designer)
• Hybrids + Electric (6-8 months) (requires new Engine Designer)

That adds up to 23-32 months, i.e. 2-3 years, which is also why we want to smack people in da face (just in our thoughts of course) when they suggest it's just changing a few values around. :P

Re: Will DLC cost extra?

Killrob, I don't mean to sound like the 1,000 other people who have asked about diesels, but why will it require a new engine designer? I see why it would be extremely hard, as you would have to change nearly every calculation, but the designer itself would be the same, right?

If I have understand right to change every calculation = new engine designer. There is also some different aspects that needs to be defined. You'll have to change the user interface for diesel engine related controls and get rid of the things that only relates to petrol engines. So the only tabs in engine designer that doesn't change are maybe the bottom end and exhaust... There's not that much left from the engine designer we have at the moment.

Re: Will DLC cost extra?

Very true, almost everything changes, it's not like you add a fuel type option "Diesel" and the rest stays the same. I'm not implying that this is what you said or meant. Most art assets could be removed, but the sheer amount of rewriting the calculations (also: turbos), testing them, balancing, getting them worked into the game, into the AI and all that... takes ages. :s
