Facelifts?

So I started playing yesterday and I love the game, but it has so much potential as well as bugs and weird design choices.
I'm going to give only one of my ideas as it's a pain to write from my phone.
Ok, here is my main annoyance - car design.
Say I have an econo-box that I'd like to turn into a hot hatch, and I want to add flared arches, change the grille a bit, that sort of thing. In order to do that, i need to basically start from scratch, as body shape changes require reset of all fixtures. Or I want to have a minor facelift, but I want to keep my current car setup.
Basically all I'm proposing, is making body change and fixture placement a part of model design instead of chassis design.
Overall, I'm enjoying this game and can't wait for the release!

Re: Facelifts?

Yeah, we know that one is not ideal, there is going to be some work put into improving the amount of variation possible on the same platform :)

Re: Facelifts?

Great!
Also, will it be possible to save certain parts of design?
Say I have a hatchback and I want to make a sedan version with the same front end.
It would be easy to just make something like a saved designs tab, where you choose the body and then apply saved design to it.

Something along those lines, yeah.

Re: Facelifts?

I was logging in to ask the same questions, arches/spoilers/lips/vents all change between different models of the same "platform", I'd have said that these are all options for the model, such as engine/wheel sizes :)

Re: Facelifts?

Yeah!
And I mean for example in real life, sometimes they build different two different cars on the same chassis (ex. Focus/Mazda3)

Cars: An embarrassment!

Re: Facelifts?

On a similar note. Will it be possible to (for example) make a turbo version of an engine you've already designed or develop a new head for an old engine once you've unlocked new tech and only pay for the development cost of the changes rather than having to develop an entire new engine?

Real world car companies use tricks like these to save money and extend the life of old equipment all the time (look at Ford Australia's 4L I6 as a perfect example of this).

Re: Facelifts?

Same question goes for everything really. Will it be possible to produce the same car with several different engine/gear box combos and different interior trim levels to maximize its appeal to as broad a customer base as possible or would each one have to be treated as a separate vehicle designed from scratch?

Re: Facelifts?

@Frankschtaldt:

Those are called Revisions, and are in the game already. You can revise (or redesign) your engine or carbody already and save it under a different name.
