CNC Ported Heads

Anyone have any thoughts on adding CNC porting to heads. Could be added easily, just clone the current heads and have 1 each for standard as-cast and cnc ported.

The CNC ported could add intake and exhaust flow and MTBF. Perhaps making the DOHC 4 valve comparable to a standard 5 valve, and the ported 5v would get more power.

Ported heads would require a CNC shop and added man hours, maybe leave it as a limited production option.

Real world example is the Boss Mustang used to get ported heads for the 5.0L a couple years ago.

Re: CNC Ported Heads

Engine designer is kind of locked really until a lot more of the game has been finished, like car designer and tycoon part, which will take up for about a year. Besides that, I never heard of Ported heads to CNC... Doesnt mean its not used, but doesnt sound like it would really mean much for the game than making it more complex.

The same effect can be seen by increasing top end quality.

I have a set of (as yet uninstalled) ported cylinder heads for my car. From what I recall, the intake ports were milled more aggressively than the exhaust. Since this is mostly an "aftermarket" thing to do, it is unlikely it will show up in the game.

Re: CNC Ported Heads

I understand the Engine Designer is feature complete and of course if this is added it would be with the rest of the V engines down the road.

But I think it would be easy to implement since it's not really a feature and it is probably much easier to add this than more V engines. All models can stay the same since you don't see the ports in much detail anyway. Also I don't see how it would make the game much more complicated, just more head choices. With that said it won't add a lot to the gameplay, so just an idea.

On a side note, I think this is actually fairly common practice for high end sports cars. I visited the facility that used to machine heads for the Dodge Viper which also had CNC machined ports and combustion chambers.

And speaking of CNC machining parts, I also wouldn't mind seeing a billet block option as an additional material. Full blocks (maybe even heads) machined out of a solid piece of metal... Adds MTBF, manhours, top torque/rpm, and requires cnc shop. But this is likely done only for true racing applications, maybe not even for limited production.

Re: CNC Ported Heads

The heads are quite balanced as they are now. I dont see it as an option for the devs to implement really, as it requires calculations and such.
More something as a modding project later on when modding tools are released.

I see how it could contribute to the game as in offering a way to get really high performance engines to put in your ferrari-like or lamborghini-like cars, but more as a modding addition or some sort of Engine Designer DLC later on to make race-engines or anything related to high-end engines.

Re: CNC Ported Heads

As SlimJim said, top end quality has exactly those effects, no need for redundant game mechanics.

Art wise, yes. But trust me, the last thing we need is more choices that effect engine output and correct scenario balance etc.

Re: CNC Ported Heads

isn't quality slider improving the head flow?

edit: instead of quality -15 - +15 add a text version as option, like lighter valves, harder springs, ported intake etc.

and yes i know how little space UI has, so popup tooltips?

Isn't that the same exact thing? :)

Indeed it is the same thing. :)
