I don't know if it counts as a bug as such (and if it does then its almost certainly very low priority), but this evening I spent ages trying to make the perfect VW Golf GTI MKI replica. Pretty much everything I needed for the body was available, and I managed to get the peak power and torque to within ~0.4 of their proper values at the correct RPM, using all the settings I could find on that website you suggested in the engine stats gathering thread and modifying whatever settings were left. However, when I tried to fit the engine in as a transverse it wouldn't fit because it was too long a considerable margin . This was with the roomiest front suspension available and the simplest 4 speed gearbox I could make.
There is a little circular thing at the back of the engine that has wires going to it. I don't really know much about engines so i don't know if it is possible to move this when you have mechanical fuel injection, but doing so might just solve the problem. Or, since the gearbox scales to the size of the car, it shouldn't clip with the gearbox and it might be able to be ignored while fitting the engine (not sure about a longitudinal mounted engine though, since big engines go right up against the dashboard)
