Re: Open Beta: Suspension & Dynamics

Hey guys!

We just made available a new little update that primarily fixes the issue with mounting turbo engines into your cars.
Progress is slow right now because of the insane heat-wave the Aussie part of the team is experiencing right now,
so please have a bit of patience on top of the usual patience required to follow Automation's development. :)

I have updated the opening post with the update, it's just a little 11MB patch you need. Manual install again.
Cheers!

both of the links go to the 1316 > 1318 patch.
manually editing the link to 1317 > 1318 doesn't work either

I appreciate all the new features!

I almost masturbated myself when I saw the new tyres/brakes/suspensions/bodies! :D ;)

I encountered 1, 2 or 3 bugs (but they could be my misunderstandigs):

- when I selected the bonnet with the wings on the sides, "automatically" one of it, it was added "in the front" of the car hood (the car was the estate with "long" luggage space);

- in the tires/rims/wheels section when I selected different tires I didn't see any differences between the tires, no slick "tread/outrider/pacer" (I hope this is the english word for italian "battistrada") or no tessellated for offroad tires. It remain the "standard" tires (I don't know which is the name of standard tires).

- in the brakes section, when I "slide" the slider Pad I don't see any differences with the pads, always the "standard" pads little grey (I choose solid disks, with 1 piston).

So that's all guys!

I forgot to report another bug (or another "noob misunderstanding) :D ):

when I go to the sandbox section, in the grey screen of the platforms and models, I see the "writtens" over the columns a little "blurry", I mean they are not defined like in the Killrob videos (I saw the last video about suspension and tyres).

I'm playing on a Asus N53SV, Windows 7, 6GB RAM, Nvidia GeForge GT540M 2GB VRAM and 1366x768 resolution screen.

I'll try to post a screen of the problem as soon as possible.

Also, please compare it to 1280x720 windowed mode and see if that changes the font sharpness.

Killrob you were right, thanks!

I tried your configuration (1280x720 windowed) and, as you can see, the font was defined:

Image

Then I tried the 1280x720 fullscreen and the font remained defined (sorry I wasn't able to take a screen, the button "stamp" didn't work with Automation fullscreen, when I quit to paste in Paint I saw only a blank screen with the light blue borders and the writtens "Automation - Design Tools - (WORK IN PROGRESS) - BUILDv 1317).

So the problem is my notebook resolution 1366x768?

P.S.

What about other "bugs/noob's problems"

I encountered 1, 2 or 3 bugs (but they could be my misunderstandigs):

- when I selected the bonnet with the wings on the sides, "automatically" one of it, it was added "in the front" of the car hood (the car was the estate with "long" luggage space);

- in the brakes section, when I "slide" the slider Pad I don't see any differences with the pads, always the "standard" pads little grey (I choose solid disks, with 1 piston).

P.P.S.

So can I upgrade Automation with the 10MB patch that you put in the first post even if I have 1317 version (the patch says b1316 to b1318)?

Re: Open Beta: Suspension & Dynamics (B1318)

Works been mental so I've only had a chance to play this for an hr last night! :( However, I had a productive play around.

Things I've noticed:
1) If you revise a platform and change features and/or colour and save the platform as the same name; When you return to the list of platforms the preview pic doesnt change. When you reload the game the preview is correct. Not sure if this was present before the beta release update or not?

2) Whats with the spring stiffness and other suspension figures changing from round numbers to "999" at the end? eg 24999 instead of 25000. God help anyone with OCD haha.

3) Guessing no artwork yet for ride height and camber? Either that or I'm not noticing it too well.

4) I created a new platform, designed it and pressed save. I forgot to change the name from "car" and it automatically replaced my previous design (also named "car") without an "are you sure you want to overwrite existing data?" warning.

5) Double-click on a model in the platform list and the game crashes. Then again this model had a 1.8L turbo engine so it might just be the previously reported bug (thats now fixed in the new 11mb update) that cause the crash?

6) While changing damper stiffness/sway bar/spring stiffness to reduce max roll angle I noticed that an inprovement of the figure doesn't show up in green just stays orange eg 3.20 (3.51). However when the figure gets worse it still turns red eg 3.51 (3.20)

And as a general question; whats the cooling airflow do? Was messing around with it and it seems to be effecting downforce? Does a lower figure "solidify" (reduce airflow through) some of the vents/grill calcs?

Slim Jim wrote:I've been building a lot of high-powered rear-wheel drive cars, and while they all have excellent cornering grip, and accurate handling stats... the acceleration seems off. For example, in order to get an E63 AMG (2012, twin-turbo) close to its real-life acceleration stats, I have to move the weight distribution slider to the extreme rearward bias. If I use the real-life weight distribution, it spins way too easily... even with semi-slick tires.

Mirroring what an earlier post said, the fake weight is not the only slider that is bugged. The weight distribution stat "sticks" when you revise different models.

I think what you are experiencing with the RWD acceleration is a problem linked to the height of the center of gravity. Currently, if you set the fake weight slider to a bigger value than the base weight of the model, the height of the center of gravity will probably drop. This results in less dynamic weight distribution to the rear while accelerating -> less grip -> less acceleration -> less dynamic load on the rear axle -> less grip -> less acceleration -> ...
We'll have to take a look at the height of center of gravity in the next subproject, when we install interior into the cars.

Re: Open Beta: Suspension & Dynamics (B1319)

Heya,

For the people who has start problems.
U probably have to completely re-install ur system (no joking)
Had the graphics drivers update no result.
.NET Framework passport No result.
Direct x No result.

Re-install PC. (Y) RESULT...

Maybe others can find a better solution but i guess this was the most proper way. ( and a fresh OS is always good ;P )

--- Edit ---

After a few updates in windows i had the problem again. so maybe it is the game i dunno.
The file that crashes is NTDLL.DLL

Looks like brainstorming or re-install Os. AGAIN... >.<'

Because I was about to go to uni and didn't have time. I figured that since the .exe and the url were called 1316 > 1318 it would update from build 1316 to 1318 and that someone had copied the wrong link

Re: Open Beta: Suspension & Dynamics (B1319)

Since 1319 im no longer getting the error of the game crashing with loading a model with a turbo engine. However when I load these now i am told "unable to load engine. It is too big". The engine shows as selected and all the stats are there, there is just no visual of it in the engine bay. You may be aware of this problem already but just giving my 2c

Re: Open Beta: Suspension & Dynamics (B1319)

Really enjoying the new update so far.

I haven't gotten much time to try to recreate my cars from the previous build, but I have noticed so far that the new Station Wagon body still highlights the bumper of the base model sedan and you cannot change the bumper depth of the new wagon.

I was gonna try to screenshot it, but apparently I cannot switch back and forth between my desktop and Automation without the game crashing.
