First visitor forum pop-up

Maybe we can implement a pop-up on the forums for when it's a first visit with a new registered account saying that they have to check the forum rules first and search for posts regarding their topic first also?

I personally find it frustrating, annoying and angry making that people always come on asking the same questions. They just click New Topic and fire away their question. This way you can force them to read and have them click a button before they can do anything and make them aware.

It is just plain ridiculous that in 24 hours time, you get two topics about a release date or a question to add something to the game which will already be in.

I find this annoying, but I can imagine you Devs find it even more annoying, with facebook and youtube also to maintain.

So what you think?

Re: First visitor forum pop-up

Good idea but I don't think it will be that usefull in real life. People typically (including myself) will ignore popups and such.

Although I think just the way you do. It's not nice to see the question regarding "can we drive our cars" for thousends of times... :)

Re: First visitor forum pop-up

Well, it actually works if you have to scroll down to get Accept the rules to be selectable and click continue :P
I know it might not be that user friendly, but it sure makes this forum a hell of a lot 'cleaner' if you know what I mean.

Re: First visitor forum pop-up

Yeah "Not user friendly" is a bad thing, I'd much rather have to answer some repeat questions than annoy the users of our forum because they have to read a bunch of text before they're allowed to use the forum.

Yes we have to copy paste FAQ answers into forum threads every few days, but that comes with the territory, people tend not to search or check the FAQ on any forums, ever :P

Re: First visitor forum pop-up

Well, its only a first timer, and you get it on a lot of things, like Terms and Conditions for the use of software, hardware and any other things. Not that they read it if its like 20 pages long, but perhaps like 3 or 2 sentences pointing them out to read them?

Re: First visitor forum pop-up

People just don't read it, no matter how you present it, so I don't see the need to have it there. There is no way around it either, which is frustrating of course. ; (

I assume you are talking about me asking about the date of the next release in here... which isn't ridiculous I have been told late October - early November and I simply wanted a more close timetable... just saying

Re: First visitor forum pop-up

Its not a personal offense to you. Eventhough you asked it, you are not the only one. Besides that, it is just trying to keep things more clean. You actually asked for a date as you knew late october early november, so thats not an issue, but we get people here asking for V6 engines over and over. Anyway, I understand you wouldnt want to do it on the forums. But I still think if its simple it will still have effect :)
