compression

Quick question relating to compression ratios. I tend to muck around with replicating some older engines GM holden Grey and Red motors and some 60's and 70's V8 but I haven't found much motivation in the game to run the low compression ratios that where common to many motors of this era. I was just woundering if the compresion ratio should have some effect on the MTBF of an engines maybe more so early on. Also I would like to know if the compression ratio will affect the cooling requiements of the engine (as I understand it a reason that air cooled engines use lower ratios is because of heat) this applies more to the complete car designer I suppose.

Thank to the dev team for a great game

Re: compression

In Automation we've balanced the compression question with ignition timing. Aiming for the same RON you can either have low compression and aggressive ignition timings, or high compression and mild ignition timings. Going for the aggressive ignition timing option gives you more responsiveness, while (I think, not 100% sure though...) going for the compression gives you a bit better better eco and down-low performance.
