Aerodynamics

  • Will in the *very far* future be aerodynamics taken in consideration?
  • Will there be only drag or also downforce(race cars and supercars expecially would advantage from that)?
  • Will there be moving aero parts(Spoilers opening while braking, variable downforce spoilers) *in a extremely far future*?
  • How will the cooling be handled in the final game?

Re: Aerodynamics

Aerodynamics will be taken into consideration, and most probably already in the Car Designer demo. We plan on having a dedicated Aerodynamics tab.

Will there be only drag or also downforce(race cars and supercars expecially would advantage from that)?
Most probably, both drag and downforce will be considered.

Will there be moving aero parts(Spoilers opening while braking, variable downforce spoilers) *in a extremely far future*?
We're considering adaptive parts, no guarantee they'll make it though. I'd like to have them in.

How will the cooling be handled in the final game?
Cooling is very important, obviously, and makes up for about 30% of a car's drag too! Currently we're planning on making maximum cooling capability dependent on effective grille / vent / intake area. And then let you optimize it (via a slider in the aerodynamics tab) between maximum cooling capability and maximum drag reduction.

Re: Aerodynamics

I don't know if there is a more suitable thread to suggest some active areodynamics, but here are my suggestions for active and passive aero ideas:

1. Variable cooling management for cooling of the engine and brakes, as demonstrated in this advertisement from Mercedes-Benz:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sJY0-f ... 45AC0E04FE

2. Aerodynamic rims, demonstrated in the same link above.

3. The ability to remove exterior side mirrors and replace them for cameras, as shown for the Tesla Model X and the Volkwagen XL1?

4. Adaptable wings and/or flaps, for supercars such as the Bugatti Veyron and the Pagani Huayra?

5. Is the shape of the windscreen and other details from the car bodies going to affect aerodynamics beside the basic aero drag from a car body?

Re: Aerodynamics

1 and 4 will be options in the active aerodynamics list in the future.
5 is very difficult to do properly.
2 and 3 have only minor effects, I think chances of these coming into the game are pretty low.
