Re: Turbo Update: Full Change-Log & Discussion

I have already created a monster a 2250bhp engine that fails on the stand back off the rev limiter and it will back off the power but make it usable now its time to put that V8 monster inside a car -laughs evilly-

@jagermeister: boost increases you effective compression, that's why the octane requirements go up. You can counteract that by giving the engine more fuel. If you're unsure about turbo designs, I suggest you use the presets and build the engine around that turbo instead.

Ya, I've definitely had a difficult time rebuilding the engines that I have made with the turbo. It seems you really have to design the engine around the turbo. I've had lots of compression problems with my originals.

Thanks Killrob, I'm getting better at it now.

Uhh. We have not made any major changes to N/A engines, what's less realistic about them now?

I get them behaving a little different. (Not sure about less realistic)

I had built an H1 V8, it used to make 400HP @ 9,400RPM and 245Lb-Ft @ 7,800

Now it makes 389HP @ 9300RPM and 240Lb-Ft @ 7900RPM, and I haven't changed anything.

I had also built a 4.7L to represent some what of a Dodge 4.7 from a Ram 1500 (2005)

That motor made 235HP @ 5300RPM & 300Lb-Ft @ 2700RPM (running a bit rich to get those numbers), now makes 254HP @ 5500RPM & 292Lb-Ft @ 2800RPM, still haven't changed anything.

I'm almost sure I can get them back to where they were, but that H1 may be a little bit of a challenge. :P

Re: Turbo Update: Full Change-Log & Discussion

What might be causing the difference is that the different head types have been balanced out a little more to make DAOHC less overpowered for most applications.

Also, the exhaust setting is two steps different now compared to back in the Revamp and I6 release.

Re: Turbo Update: Full Change-Log & Discussion

Having great fun with the turbos! I've come across two different issues, however. Firstly, I've noticed something funky going on with turbo V8's.

For example, here's a turbo 2.4L I4 I made:

http://www.mediafire.com/?44f81qv28jy8l3k

Image

And here's a twin turbo 4.8L V8 built with the exact same specifications:

http://www.mediafire.com/?3q5ck5y371c9qup

Image

Theoretically, the V8 should have a similar torque plateau and roughly 480 hp / 480 lb-ft. At first I thought I forgot to select dual exhaust or chose too small an intercooler, but I've gone through every setting ten times. I can't figure out why the power is nosediving.

A smaller issue: Engines do not save valve cover selections. Whenever I reload one they default to a random design and color.

Thanks!

Re: Turbo Update: Full Change-Log & Discussion

Don't forget those two engines with the exact same specs are NOT going to have anything like the same turbo specs as the V8 is running Twin Turbos, so it'll perform very differently.

Re: Turbo Update: Full Change-Log & Discussion

I understand, but if each of the two turbos is identical to the single turbo on the four cylinder, and each is being fed by four cylinders of identical displacement, they should function similarly. Right?

Re: Turbo Update: Full Change-Log & Discussion

Yes, those two engines should be more similar. In manual testing mode, do you see anything that is limiting the engine? I think you didn't choose twin-intake on the V8? So maybe the throttle is limiting.

Re: Turbo Update: Full Change-Log & Discussion

Everything is green in manual testing except the turbo itself, of course. Going from single to twin intake has no effect on power at all, although I did pick up three horsepower from throttle-per-cylinder. Going to a larger intercooler and using bigger exhaust also has little to no effect. Not sure what else it could be.
