lifetime is now in miles i see but how can my I6 only last for 46 miles ? or is there a problem with the measurement ? the decimal seems out of place?

Re: new engine lifetime measurment ?

there is a bug in there... it is missing a "k"... 46k miles is what it should be in that case I guess.

Not at all, it is a new model that approaches lifetime from a service interval standpoint.

ok i thought it was a measure of the lifetime based on a roaduse simulation.

Kind of is yes, the KMs are aproxomated for a car with average gearing etc.

So does the lifetime measure how many miles/KMs the car travels until it needs a new motor? Or is it just until the motor starts to see decreased efficiency due to normal wear? Because I've been building engines with a lifespan of about 60K miles and I have no idea if that is any good or not. But to me (a guy who has owned cars with over 400k kms) that doesn't seem like a lot.

Re: new engine lifetime measurment ?

Time between failures so lets say after 100,000km it kills an ignition coil, then after 200,000km it needs carby work, you'd say that engine had a Lifetime of 100,00km, really we should rename it Mean Time Between Failures.

Cool, that helps me understand it a lot better.

Re: new engine lifetime measurment ?

This new measure basically gives you the distance between major engine servicing has to be done. Building a 60k Miles engine in that way of looking at it is pretty good!
This doesn't mean engines won't last 200k km or even 500k km... it is just an indicator. Also, a 10k km engine will probably not last 200k km before basically the whole engine has to be rebuilt.

Re: new engine lifetime measurment ?

We promise to add some method of explaining/naming it in game that's better than current ;)

Re: new engine lifetime measurment ?

AH! That makes much more sense being time between failures. More like major service interval instead of time to replace the engine. I was freaking out a bit that having the best things on a 2012 my engines were rating at only 1/3 of what my 1999 currently has on it. :)
