Old Toyota Fanatic! My cars + introduction :P

Things of beauty:
Image
That is my "AE-71" Coupe. The closest thing to an AE86 without being a AE86.
4A-GE Smallport converted for RWD, AE86 transmission, rear axle, "solid axle" main shaft (joints only on ends for maximum strength), D2 Racing Suspenion, Urethane bushings, front angles fixed etc. Half bucket front seats, half bucket rear seat bottom etc. And stunningly gorgeus, stunningly agile. Parking the car by drifting on dry asphalt is often easier than "parking the proper, boring way". To this car i am planning a Toyota 3S-GE Beams engine (230HP JIS 2Litre, DOCH, Dual VVT-i), with 6 speed manual transmission, and probably with air conditioning, power steering, central locking etc. after project completion this would become my daily driver.

I also own a TE-71 Sedan drifter project, still building the chassis, lots of rust damage, lots of strengthening, weight stripping and still requiring a roll cage.

Currently am driving a Shiny Black Corolla DX KE70 with TE-71 engine + running gear, looking to drop in a turbocharged 1.6 engine with Megasquirt controlling fuel injection and wastespark by end of the summer. Will be upgraded for coilovers, adjustable front lower control arms, adjustable camber to be able to reach upto ~80degree steering angle for maximum drift angles! Currently maxes out at around 45degrees, tires hitting the chassis, still tho: Turns insanely tight tho, and very fast steering: 2.5 turns from stop to stop.

I also own a shitty BMW 320i '83 and Ford Sierra 2.0iS (which is kinda fun, if you can live with it being Ford and therefore breaking down about every day, and freezing in there)

Nothing beats the excitement of high speed cornering! I build my cars myself and have an large garage where to work on them.
The shiny black KE70 i purchased just a week ago with broken turbocharged engine (and consequently without turbomanifold, turbo, IC etc.), broken rear brakes, bad electrics etc. and already swapped an stock 1.6 engine, fixed brakes and electrics.

I also own and operate a hosting business, BitTorrent seedboxes and VPS to be specific, over at http://PulsedMedia.com and have a vast experience in programming, networks etc. I also do on smaller scale high quality shared web hosting, mostly businesses and the occasional freelance web development project. All the hard work i do is to get behind the steering wheel and do some exciting high speed cornering!

My dream is pretty much one day to be able to afford full rally spec AE86 (Corolla GT), and participate in races. In the meantime, drifting etc. will have to do. I'm also looking forward to one day go with my "AE71" to Nürburgring and see what time i can clock with pretty much stock aerodynamics (To keep it looking like stock outside) and to cause funny expressions on the faces of german people, seeing a 30+ yo old car running at Autobahn and Nürburgring at extreme high speeds.

Toyota cars are considered among the best and most successful cars. This is the brand that embodies the success story of Japanese manufacturers in the world market. It has been a perennial market leader when it comes to customer satisfaction. The company has something called the Toyota manufacturing system. He credits this system and the process of reducing production costs, while improving vehicle quality by eliminating defects.

Re: Old Toyota Fanatic! My cars + introduction :P

Indeed they are. However due to their manufacturing system, sometimes tolerances are rather ... large as well.
But toyota has spend a lot of time in R&D.

I myself consider old RWD Corolla, KE70 and TE71 one of the last few "true cars", meaning no useless luxuries and accessories, just what an car should need and have.

When you put thought into it, those way under respected cars are actually quite damn well designed. What other car of the age is still not just competitive in Rally (and drifting) but actually a winner? Especially in Rally, group F is dominated by Corolla GTs (AE86) here in Finland.

No wonder old Corollas are damn expensive here. Export of them to africa is a major business and have driven price of old corollas sky high. Price has multiplied over the past 8 years. Those which remain are mostly wanted for rallying, racing etc. Even 1.3 models are really wanted for rally. An old corolla here might go for more than a brand new car, and i'm not joking! Even a mint stock condition one can go for 4-5k € (museum registered), TE71 Coupe for 6k € in similar condition.

Disclaimer: I currently own 3 old Corollas, one of which is my daily driver. The platform on which old RWD toyotas are based on is extremely versatile, and i wish to see Toyota getting back to it's roots by building rudimentary, lightweight RWD cars for every day use, with just the needed accessories and no extra. New Hiaces are still pretty much like this, no wonder they are also so wanted they are unproportionally expensive as well.

Thats a awesome ride. I've only seen about two of them over here in Norway. One mint running a 4AGZE and one rustbucket.

How do you like your D2 coilovers? (im guessing they are coilovers). Im thinking about getting D2 for my Ae86. But really havent desided yet for what to go with.

I had separate spring + damper setup on rear.
VERY stiff, but as long as you drive atleast 40km/h it's actually quite comfy. Gets too soft tho at 200km/h+ speeds.

Next going to try MCNSport customized AVO coil-over setup on rear :)
