You can find them in Documents/my games/Automation/Cars and Documents/my games/Automation/Engines.

Of course rules will be adjusted to work properly for the respective year.

I know he's already said he will adjust budget, but $10k for '55 seems very excessive to me. I ran the 1971 ITA season with a $9500 budget for the smaller class, and some really freakishly impressive cars came out of it. And there were a lot more expensive things available in '71 as compared to '55.

Re: BRC - Out of the Steam - 1945 [BUILD]

Hello all, just picked up this game and have already invested way too many hours into it. After finding these forums and seeing all the cool car companies and things that people have done I was inspired to make my own company and then I found this thread. The whole race thing sounds awesome and I would like to try it out even if my car probably ends up doing badly. Will be submitting a car to get tested soon, but in the mean time I was wondering if the race program OP made is available for use somewhere, it looks amazing and I would love to be able to pit a bunch of my own cars against each other and watch them race. On a side note, what kinds of lap times should I be aiming for, I saw the pre-season test video had a best lap of like 162 seconds which is a full 10 seconds faster than I have been able to get with the lightest/smallest/most powerful v8 I could make.
Im sure people want to keep their exact specs under wraps so as not to give away any sort of design secrets that would help other cars reach their performance level, but any sort of general tips for making race engines would be appreciated. Spent the last 24 hours tuning a v8 engine I made to weigh under 110kg and put out 125HP, giving me a power/weight ratio of ~14.85, about as close as I can get to the 15 ratio cap :P
Tried larger engines with the same overall weight ratio but the lighter engine always put up lap times 5-9 seconds faster.
Anyway, here is a preview of the race variant of my upcoming car company's first production model. - Sorry for the large images, is there a way to embed imgur albums?

You will probably gain at least 10 seconds going from the Automation in-game tests to BROBOB - and under 3 minutes is faster than I could manage in-game (I missed the first test).

Also, good-looking car! Congrats!

Could someone explain me why having a smaller engine with more cylinders would matter so much in terms of speed compared to a larger engine with the same amount of power output adjusted to the overall car weight.

I think it has a lot to do with weight balance. The heavier engine makes it more nose heavy.

Also the smaller engine can rev higher which will give it a wider RPM band to produce power.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm often still trying to find the perfect balance for things. I have the game for a while now, but I'm not extremely knowledgeable about engines. I often wondered what would be better: given the same power output and displacement, whether to go for 4 or 8 cylinders. I guess 8 will definitely be less fuel economical.

Thanks, didn't realize the BROBOT simulator would give better times. Best automation track laptime in-game so far was 2:53:01, but my top speed was about 4 mph lower and was killing me on Green Hell runs. More tweaking and I think I found a good trade off for top-speed and acceleration now. Suspension tuning is almost done I think, was able to significantly increase my 20m and 200m corner speeds once I changed the game to Newton Meters from ft-pounds as the sway-bar settings are missing in ft-pounds mode. Wheel-spin is still massive :\

The v8 also puts out more torque at the same RPM levels than other engines which really helps in the low end and for acceleration. Also, my v8 says 28.7 mpg :P
