I never heard of it aswell! But i found out why... most manufacturers just dont designate their DAOHC designs as DAOHC. Its mostly OHC with tappets... and not OHC with arms - the only difference is that in a DAOHC configuration the valves are like this : "|" and in a SOHC they are like this "\_/"
The reasons they went for it was: Emissions, Emissions and Emissions. Atleast that is what some people over at the Opel Tech Team told me.

how 'good' is it might be a bit subjective that depends on the person judging them

well, packbat giving good example for that. your cars especially pretty much noticeable in Silverstone since your car qualified on position 24 yet finish on 6 during race.

Re: BRC 1966 - Gentleman Brobots Club [RACE 2 P&Q]

Bear in mind that that's just the first thing I thought of. You could also look at:
  • People who gained a lot of places, regardless of starting and finishing positions.
  • People who gained a lot relative to qualifying times - gaining two places from people 1 s/lap faster may be more impressive than six places from people 0.1 s/lap faster.
  • People who gained a lot of positions in the overall standings, regardless of finishing position in this race.
Choosing what objective criterion to use is, itself, a subjective endeavor.[/total-nerd]

Re: BRC 1966 - Gentleman Brobots Club [RACE 2 P&Q]

I agree, this would make things more interesting. Maybe each commentator could pick a car (preferrably not their own or each others) they want to talk about. Once it has been a focus car, it should probably not be chosen again during the season. Packbat had some really great ideas on how to choose cars....but they would be chosen either at the end of the race, or even better at the beginning of the next race, in addition to the top 10 qualifiers. You guys will run out of things to say about the top 10 if they are mostly the same each week.

P.S. Packbat is such a nerdy girl. :P

Re: BRC 1966 - Gentleman Brobots Club [RACE 2 P&Q]

So I have an idea I want to share :
In the Brobot simulation, the fuel consumption is estimated during dry conditions. However In the race, rain can happen and it tends to reduce said fuel consupmption. If you have a planned pit stop with refueling, that's okay because you'll just take less fuel. But if you don't, you'll end up with extra fuel that you can't burn.
So I've been thinking : could the Brobot handle something like aggressive ECU map/Overboost ?
My idea is that you'd be allowed to have two engine trims : a regular one and a second where the only settings allowed to be modified are fuel mixture, ignition timing, rev-limit and, if you have a turbocharger, boost pressure. Then when Brobot notices that you have consumed less fuel than anticipated, it would temporarily use the second trim setting.
So, is such a thing feasible ?

Re: BRC 1966 - Gentleman Brobots Club [RACE 2 P&Q]

Oh... yeah, that's not compatible with the BRC regulations. I also realized changing such settings would also alter Drivability and Sportiness so it would require a second car trim. And here I thought I had a clever idea... :?

It's quite a cool idea, just totally unworkable XD

Who said FWD is not feasible for a race car!
