07ColbaltGirl, this should make you feel good, you inspired me (well... mainly reminded me ) to make more realistic engines for my car company on the forum. Was using SOHC and DOHC engines in the 40's and 50's simply because they were available.... Now I am using period correct Chevy engines with custom tuning, this saves engine manufacturing costs for the company and allows us to spend money in other areas of our cars' construction.

Yay! I did something to inspire another person. That does make me feel good. I do have a habit of being as realistic as possible. It doesn't serve me well in these competitions, however, as not everybody does it . I know I talk a lot of shit about my cars being slow or how they suck, but I do enjoy these competitions. I also actually do like my cars. I just wish they could be faster! (or burn less fuel, or conserve tires, or lead at least one lap) But I do have the fattest car with the biggest engine, the highest horsepower (and maybe torque too?), the worst fuel economy, and it eats tires like they were Cheerios!

Definitely a heavy engine. Some 265kg of V8 iron measuring 4.3L (265 cubic inches) of glorious American displacement!

My engine weighs nearly as much as some of the not-sprites!!

SOHC and DOHC did actually exist even long before 1955. Earliest example of DOHC to pop straight into my head is the Lamborghini 350GT in the early '60s I believe. But even that is far from the first.

Yeah, you qualified 29th ... with a lap time three seconds faster than mine. Maybe on Brands Hatch I'll edge you out - I think that track ate tyres fairly quickly - but here? Ten seconds behind you minimum.

Well, if you watched the practice session, my first recorded lap was 1:42.xx, but my final lap was 1:48.xx. I did have only one error on L3 or L4, but there was also no damage. The races will have damage and will likely be double the length of the practice (if not more), so I'd say you have a damn fine shot at whooping my tail.

Oh, I think I see the confusion - your lap-ten time wasn't 1:48.24, it was 148.24 seconds = 2:28.24. In a twenty laps I might catch you (my lap-ten time was 2:28.40), but this is only going to be thirteen laps ... which means I don't have a chance.
