[SOLVED] Cannot reduce cost / engine too expensive

So, I solved my own problem, which was:
The engine is too expensive. The cost is too high. I cannot reduce cost. I cannot progress to next scenario, I can't win.

...or can I ??? Yes, I can - by re-examining what I have done and troubleshooting my game-play before I submit a support request on the forums.

Within the "Fighting The Imports" scenario of the Inline 6 Engines section, the game challenged me to create a cheap, low-powered, economical engine using newfangled electronic fuel injection. After tweaking the engine for a while, I got this configuration which meets minimum standards but Total Cost is too high!!!:

I was happy with this power, reliability, and economy but I cannot progress because the cost is too high for my puny 87Hp 1.5L engine. So, I downgraded everything to the cheapest possible, and still this engine cost too much. Then, I reconfigured the engine to be the smallest, most-basic engine the game can create... and the cost was STILL too high.

I was beginning to think maybe a bug in this beta software, so I look up how to submit a bug report and remember to re-read the wonderful FAQ How To Ask Questions The Smart Way :ugeek: by Eric S. Raymond to help ensure my question to the Automation forums don't get immediately ignored and banned by people who know what they are doing.

Finally, I retraced my steps and I remembered the first thing I did in this scenario was to set the "Quality" slider on the block / head / crank / arms / pistons to high quality, in fact the highest quality possible, +15 quality. I adjusted this slider back to the default +0 quality and voila, the Total Cost reduced considerably by thousands of dollars (and also I got a Bronze score for this scenario):

"I'm Winner!" :D

This issue is solved but I am posting it here with a few additional/awkward phrasings of the issue so anyone else who experience the same problem can find it if they search for similar wordings. Initially, I thought I should issue a bug-report because I couldn't believe the smallest most basic engine could cost more than $6000. I ended up figuring out the answer myself by figuring out how to ask my question the smart way (and determined this behavior of the game is by design [duh] ).

Sadly, the people who do not know how to ask questions the smart way and would make a bug report without basic troubleshooting (especially if the issue is related to game-play mechanics and not program malfunctions) are the same ones who would never bother to search the forums beforehand to find this post, but hopefully this post will reduce at least one unnecessary inquiry.

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot reduce cost / engine too expensive

I salute you, sir.

If everyone who had a problem did the same, the forums would be a better place and, by extension, the whole world would be better.

Have fun playing the game!
