Re: Chassis Types & Materials

1960 is the year when fiberglass becomes available to everyone. You will be able to unlock it earlier in campaign mode.

Re: Chassis Types & Materials

Oh and another query... why does glass fibre have a prestige penalty? Some of the most beutiful cars were built in this material and it was only until a 1970s studies on rats found that fibrous glass is a "potent carcinogen" according to wikipedia... :?:

Re: Chassis Types & Materials

Agreed maybe up to 1969 it's ok but once you get to 1970 then you could get a major Prestige deduction for every car you made that used glass fibre.

No doubleposting, please :) - Kubby

If this is the case why isnt the fiberglass available earlier on?

I'm assuming this wont be available earlier on because of the fact it wasn't mass produced until at a guess the 80s and even then only on a few super cars.
Sorry if I'm wrong on when it first saw mass usage on cars not much information was available on its usage on cars.

Didn't notice the double post kubby sorry

Well, Multiplayer for the engine designer is coming soon, but the fact is development is fairly slow with a small team like us, we do our best to get new stuff out as often as possible but we're not going to release a broken game just because people want it now.

You'd be unlikely to see fibreglass panels on a BMW or Merc, as regardless of their usefulness in certain applications, they have a reputation of being cheap. I'd say that fibreglass bodied kit cars/low volume supercars don't quite have the prestige of aluminum bodied or carbon fibre cars, and this kind of thing matters among the super rich buyers who don't want their friends at the polo club to think they can't afford a carbon fibre bodied car etc.

Re: Chassis Types & Materials

Yes, but that's essentially saying that glass fibre is also seen as cheeper than steel as there are no prestige penalties. It is quite a statement when by 1960 the only body panel material options are steel, hand crafted aluminium and glass fibre. It is also quite a statement when it isn't possible to mass produce the material either...
