Campaign Mode

I recently preorderd the forced induction edition and everything is fine. However i have a question, in one of the devs Youtube Videos it showed you how to build the car not JUST the engine, by using a 'keystroke'. Do i have to be a Beta/Alpha tester, becauseif so i would love to be!

Re: Campaign Mode

Currently the Car Designer is not even available to beta testers, we'll start working on that again as soon as we're done with the next update.
The Campaign Mode will make its first appearance once the economy part gets on its way, which will happen after the Car Designer is solid and playable.
If you really want to be a tester, keep an eye on these forums, as there will be an announcement coming up for new testers before we release the next major update.

I have a little question:
How the game will recognize if the car is a good looking or a bad looking one? I mean, you are supposed to create something that is going to be sold and there is competition, the design should be one of the key factors, is the game going to compare and decide if your car looks good or worse than your competitors products?
I hope is clear, my english is not the best :)

Re: Campaign Mode

This is not yet fully determined, but it will be something along these lines:
Taste cannot be encompassed by the game, so it won't matter how ugly you make your car... if you like it, but some arbitrary person in the dev team decided that looks like shit, you should not get punished!
There will probably be some kind of "futuristic" - "modern" - "old fashioned" rating depending on what base body-style you choose though. This rating will resonate with some people more than others depending on what it is. If your company only produces kind of standard, boring family carriers and then all of a sudden starts producing a futuristic looking, edgy car, that will have consequences on your customers and brand. Once you've been put in a box, it's hard to escape it. ;)

Re: Campaign Mode

random idea - your designed car is posted via internet and then it gets rated by other players for looks and so on

Re: Campaign Mode

That would be equally arbitrary. Your taste in cars should NOT be punished by the game in any way.

Re: Campaign Mode

Also There are some trolls and other pricks out there that would start voting cars down for no reason. Youtube comments( and other websites) are proof of that.

Re: Campaign Mode

That's a good point, and another reason not to go that route :)
Also: tastes are pretty regional... what if 75% of the players are European, downvoting American style muscle cars (just an example) all the way? That would have horrible consequences for game balance.

Re: Campaign Mode

It's good to know that you have some freedom in the design. I hope you consider that some efforts to escape "the box" could work out pretty well, given there is a big enough demographic that likes the new style. I'm excited to see how you will implement this, because somehow my cars need to be more appealing than those of the competition. Maybe leave it down to specs, or perhaps make some keydesign elements, depending on the era, like a futuristic sportscar needs to be more aerodynamic. Meh i guess that would be restrictive aswell and also a metric ton of calculations to add...
