Re: More depth to cam profiling.

Argh, people just won't let this one go will they. We tried to make it work well, but it just ended up being annoying, no fun to use, and producing odd results sometimes.

If you want to play with every detail of engine design with absolute realism, have a look at something like -http://www.proracingsim.com/desktopdyno.htm

stephenl9000: really, for most people it's too much. This is a game after all.
Personally I'd like to see manhours and MTBF return rather than production units and reliability score of 0-100.

Although it is something that would be an interesting to get more in-depth with your engine, overall it wouldn't help change much and just be a bit of a time killer, so I would have to agree that it shouldn't be a main element but maybe an option later down the line. The setup they have now is simple but still requires so tweaking depending on what you're trying to do with it.

Re: More depth to cam profiling.

actually I would content if instead of having an arbitrary 0-100 system for the cams it was listed in duration. Duration would make sense as when looking for cams that's the first thing you look to to gauge the aggressiveness. of course there's a lot more to it, but if I knew that my "65" cams were actually 264 duration and my 100 cams were 320 duration that would make it easier to make a real world connection, especially when you are trying to recreate IRL engines.
