Survival of the fittest [FINISHED]

Image

Welcome the the first annual "Survival of the Fittest" shootout 1975.
This is a multi-stage competition. Each stage will concentrate on a few key aspects of your car, and each stage, only the winners advance to the next stage, till there's only 1 car left standing. Your car will have to be fast, tough, safe, economical and comfortable, but not all those aspects weight in as much as the others.

Technical reglament

Car eligibility : any 1975 or earlier vehicle, which is road legal

Steet legality check
Must include headlights, taillights, blinkers, reverse light (Well at least try to make these cars look good for the blurbs, people)
Safety : 30 or higher
Fuel provided at petrol stations : Ron 91
Catalytic converter : not required
Loudness : under 50
Tires : Semi slicks and off road not allowed, max +5 tire quality
Emissions : Not a single F given

Total cost max is $30,000

General calculations

Economy rule
Your fuel tank in liters equals 5% of your car's weight in KG. If your car weighs in at 1 ton, your fuel tank is 50 liters. Fuel economy stages are done at a set speed, and are calculated based on automation's rating for economy at that speed

Reliability rule
Each point of reliability under 50 is allowed, but penalized by increasing your stage time by 2%. This means you have had some technical trouble along the way, and had to either endure them or stop and fix the problem.
example - your lap time is 1:40, which is 100 seconds. Your reliability is 40, which means 10 under required 50. Your penalty is 10 x 2% = 20%. Meaning your lap time is now 120 seconds exactly, or 2 minutes. After the completion of the stage each point of reliability under 50 is doubled and deducted. If you had a 45 reliability car, and you finish the stage your new reliability will be 35 points (50-45 = 5 points. 5 x 2 = 10. 45 reliability - 10 = 35). If your reliability reaches 0 you are out of the race.

Offroad / rally stages
Since we don't really have offroad stages, we will be using tracks that are twisty and tight with the time doubled. If we use nordschelife (which your car does in 10 minutes) as an offroad stage than the gravel nordschleife will take twice as long (10x2 = 20 minutes per lap). Each point of your off-road rating removes 0.5% of your final time. If you do 10 minutes exactly on the Green hell and your offroad rating is 10, then your offroad time will be 10min x 2 = 20 min. 10 rating = 5% decrease of stage time (which is 1 minute exactly). Final result is 19 minutes. For these stages each point of "Offroad" stat will remove 0.5% of damage dealt to your car set for the stage, to a total of completely negating the damage received.

Damage
Each stage takes a toll on your car (stated for each stage separately), damaging it, including penalties to reliability, speed and driveability.
example - your car enters a 5% stage with 50 reliability, and 50 drivability. In the next stage both these stats will drop by 5%, meaning 47.5 for each, and your next stage immediately gains 5% penalty due to car' being damaged.

Battle stages
8 cars stage for 1vs1 racing.
The qualification for battle stages is posting the best lap. After the qualifications the grid takes following setup

1st vs 8th
2nd vs 7th
3rd vs 6th
4th vs 5th

At which point 1 vs 1 battles commence

Battles
If the two cars are separated by less than a second per lap on a lap, then the battle commences. In battle 1vs1 drivablity stat acts as a multiplier between them, each 1 point of driveability takes off exactly 0.02 seconds off your lap time (Cars are using each others' slip stream and becoming faster both)
example car A does a lap in 100 seconds, car B does a lap in 101 second. Car A's driveability is 30, car B's driveability is 60. Meaning car A does 100 - (30 * 0.02) = 99.4. Car B is doing 101 - (60 * 0.02) = 99.8 seconds. Both cars gain this bonus untill the end of the stage.

Tire suitability of tires at stages
Unsuitable tires will increase your time by a set amount of percent
Asphalt : Sports compound - no penalty / Medium compound - 5% / Hard compound - 10%
Asphalt + Gravel : Sports compound - 5% / Medium compound - no penalty / Hard compound - 5%
Gravel : Sports compound - 10% / Medium compound - 5% / Hard compound - no penalty

Stages

Stage 0
Drive to the event. Your car will have to cover 400km on a single tank of fuel. The speed set is 120kph. If you do not make it you are left in the middle of the road with a cardboard sign stating "Survival of the Fittest"
Asphalt
Damage rating : 0%

Stage 1
Qualification

Rally Akropolis special stage (63km)
As we don't have this stage, i'm going to use Green Hell 3 times instead, pretending it's gravel course.

RESULTS by stage

Stage 0

This is a 400km drive from point a to point b. All the cars have been fitted with their technical inspection stickers by the local government tech inspection station. Everybody is fueled up to the brim and their gas caps are locked. It's a simple drive down an interstate, with smooth tarmac and cool tunes in the radio (if you fitted that sort of thing)

This stage however surprised me, since all the calculations were open, you all could easily see if your car would fail here. For most people who have done the math the results of Stage 0 will be entertaining, but not nail biting, since you know if you will finish or not.

Well... on to the results.

Vri404
Car weight : 1314.6
fuel tank : 65.7

400km consumption : 116l
Remaining in tank : The suspicion that there's a hole in the tank, or the engine, or something....
This car barely got over the half way point with 174km to go. Needless to say everybody was quite surprised, since there was a loooong way to go

With 163km to go we have lost sight of Dspgt's little green car. This is exactly the reason why you can't go superlightweight in this challenge.

There was enough fuel left to go back and share some fuel with the ones who didn't finish. But we didn't do it because we were too busy partying.

So the next stage won't be as dramatic with only 1 of us being knocked out. See you there.

Stage 1
These calculations are done for 1 lap, since it does not actually make a difference unless we implement the damage PER LAP, which would shuffle the grid a bit. So here's laptimes, lowest to highest, just so you have to scroll down and hope you aren't out of this competition yet. MWUAHAHAHA... tension etc...

Re: Survival of the fittest shootout [rule announcement]

looks nice, might be able to make something out of the MKII communitasia for this, already super reliable so damage isn't much of a worry, though it being only 2000 pounds might be of concern, meh, i can drastically increase efficiency with the regular unleaded versus the low quality

I'll wait for a bit so that people might find something wrong with the rules could help me correct those. The accepting of entries will start on 27th, deadline will be in a week from then.

Re: Survival of the fittest shootout [rule announcement]

So far there is no reason to put hard tires on because there is no gravel-exclusive stage.

EDIT: is stage 1 race simulation? If so how will be calculated?

Re: Survival of the fittest shootout [rule announcement]

Hard tires are for future races, so is the offroad rules, which I did not include. We're testing out the waters for now.

Stage 1 is your laptime + any penalties (tires or reliability). If your lap time happens to be within 1 second of somebody else's laptime + penalties, then you go into battle mode and gain a slipstream bonus described above. That time is x20 laps. Which at this point bares no point, but later Im planning to implement a deterioration of car's condition if it's reliability is not sufficient by each lap, but it's for next time)

yep, MKII communitasia's definitely being the base, and does cheapness have any score?
