Maximum loudness – 50
Catalytic converter - mandatory
Engine block - OEM unit
CC capacity - same as production car
Cam and valve layout - same as production car (cam adjustments allowed)

Venue

We are reviving the good old tradition of reaching insane speeds on public roads! Well, sort of. We are competing in the "flying 5km" discipline on a closed off section of a legendary Dessau Autobahn Rekordversuchsstrecke. Which can be found Right here .
You will have 5km as a runway, upon which you will enter the measured 5km distance. The AVERAGE speed over that distance will be your final logged result. The theoretical top speed of the car shown in automation's "track testing" tab will not matter, nor the ability to go faster than your average recorded speed. Only those 5km matter.

Scoring
Upon receiving your car it will undergo an inspection, to see if it conforms with the rules of it's class. Once done so, owners of rejected cars will be informed on changes they have to make. The cars that passed inspections will make their run. Where I will calculate the average speed over the measured distance via an excel file (courtesy of BurningBridges).

Deadline, mods and sending in cars

To send in your car PM me the export file. If there's more than one trim - please specify which trim you chose. If you are running "S/L modified class" please send in the car file containing both your racing trim and the stock trim, specify which is which. Each person may send 1 car for each class. Specify the team name, and nationality, aswell as full car name.

Naming rule : DAR94 - your name - class. Trim names and engine names do not matter.
Examples : DAR94 - Squidhead - D2 / DAR94 - Squidhead - D1 / DAR94 - Squidhead - SLM (for S/L modified)

Deadline is in 10 days - 15/02/2016
All steam mods are allowed
No lua editing is allowed

Re: Dessau Autobahn Automation Speed record 1994

Results

Street Legal Modified class

is not a success, with only one participant.

Name : HighOctaneLove / Team : Bogliq Automotive - Moldova / Car : Ungoliant GT Modified
Image
This is a very lightly modified car, and very much suited to daily driving and high speed blasts down the track or an autobahn. But we feel that with a much less restrictive rules of it's class, it could have been a lot faster, probably faster than the D1 and D2 classes
Speed recoreded : 322,99

D1 class
this class is successful, and will be developed in the future.

#9 Name : Vri404 / Team : Guardian Developmental Division - Japan / Car : DHS Sakura "Matte Menace"
Image
A 6 liter DOHC v12 with 60 valves develops modest 643 hp, which is very much the limiting factor for the Matte menace. Given more OOMPH the result could've been a lot better.
Speed recoreded : 314,14

#8 Name : LordVader1 / Team : LVC motors - Germany / Car : Neckbreaker
Image
The complexity of the construction and exquisite materials left way too little budget for LVC motors to work on advanced aerodynamics and engine. Never the less, it's v12 produces 789hp and is taking the middle ground between 3 and 4 hundred kph
Speed recoreded : 348,70

#7 Name : Coolghost / Team : Jousa Slugs - Finland / Car : VeryCoolCar
Image
An unconventional choice of body, and our first V8 on the list of D1 class. 40 valve crossplane v8 pushes the power into the 825hp region. Use of carbon fiber body over steel chassis is a compromise between all out lightweight CF and cost cutting, but the results show that the money spent on CF would be better spent on aerodynamics.
Speed recoreded : 371,82

#6 Name : DeusExMackia / Team : ErinSport - United Kingdom / Car : ErinSport CRP-4C "Duke's Terror"
Image
Unlike team Jousa Slugs, Erinsport opted for a Carbon Fiber chassis and aluminium body, with it's simpler and cost effective 48 valve v8 reaching 807hp, it however was only enough to be within reach of the top runners.
Speed recoreded : 387,01

#5 Name : olebolesparabol / Team : Fenris Motors - Denmark / Car : Hulebo Ultimo
Image
A full carbon fiber chassis and body have prevented this car from truly breaking into top 3, but we can see that the team is on the right track, as their 48vv v12 produces only 762hp, yet good aero research has allowed to reach serious speeds.
Speed recoreded : 389,61

#4 Name : Thecarlover / Team : Lovely team - Petrolstan / Car : Lightning D1
Image
On paper - this car should not have reached these speeds, but it did surprise us. Unvonventionally high tech, expensive chassis and body, high tec 60 valve v12, and only 698hp, yet it managed to snatch 4th place! Proper placing of quality sliders and taping off cooling vents matters, and this is proof of that!
Speed recoreded : 390,03

#3 Name : HighOctaneLove / Team : Bogliq Automotive - Moldova / Car : Ungoliant
Image
Team Bogliq is the first of our D1 participants to break the 400kph barrier, and in a car that seems to be production derived! Take this, Mr. Bugatti! It's 1994 and Bogliq is already closing in on you! A heavy steeel monocoque and partial aluminium body makes this car on the heavy side, with 1400+kg, but it does not matter much as it saves a lot of money to play around where it really matters! An all aluminium 60 valve v12 pushing 860hp takes the most powerful N/A engine in D1 award, and some good aero settings allowed HighOctaneLove to take the 3rd spot in the D1 class.
Speed recoreded : 401,88

#2 Name : Squidhead / Team : Kraft Haus Technik - Germany / Car : LSR 94 RW
Image
A slightly different approach to HighOctaneLove's Bogliq - this car is also based on a steel chassis, with fiberglass as a material of choice for the body, a very cheap cast iron v8 with single overhead cam and 32 valves produces 772hp by heavy use of quality sliders, but high quality aero and drivetrain, as well, allowing for the imperfect engine an easier job at slicing through the dense air at speeds over 400kph.
Speed recoreded : 403,14

#1 Name : AirJordan / Team : Smooth Racing - United States of WHATEVER / Car : Smooth Goo
Image
Honestly... we got nothing. It looks as ridiculous as the ease with which it beat every other competitor back to the drawing board. It's just 1.3 tons of v8 power, running at 831hp. Good build, and a new pace holder for all of us to beat. Congratulations on the win, on behalf of DAR team.
Speed recoreded : 438,70

D2 Class

Class is a success, and will be developed in the future.

#7 Name : Sillyducky / Team : Silly Race Works - Sillyland / Car : Fahrzeug C2
Image
Running at 760hp, this 3.8 twinturbo v8 has failed to produce viable results, and is the car's main downfall. Given enough time this team could get up to speed and come back wiser, more aggressive and faster
Speed reached : 354,26

#6 Name : Thecarlover / Team : Lovely team - Petrolstan / Car : Lightning D2
Image
Another solid car that was undermined by it's engine. The 40vv v8 produced 812hp, and it was just not enough to run for a high position. The lightweight full carbon chassis and body did not help by chewing into the budget, removing the option to upgrade the quality of the drivetrain or aero
Speed reached : 396,48

#5 Name : Coolghost / Team : Jousa Slugs - Finland / Car : MuchCoolCar
Image
In all honesty - we do not know where this went wrong. With a 1094hp engine, second most powerful in the competition, the possibilieis seemed limitless, but lack of attention to aero and budget has struck yet another team, producing a less than expected result. We at DAR believe that given other material choices and better aerodynamics this car would be a contender for the victory
Speed reached : 399,91

#4 Name : RaduST / Team : Modern Tribute Shops - Romania / Car : Malaxa Aero HSC
Image
A very unconventional body choice, this essentially is a 1961 chassis upgraded and updated to 1994 standards. We are slightly sad not to see this run in the S/L modified class, but too much of the original was removed to have this car run in D2. Powered by a measely 862hp turbo engine, a full steel body, size is the best friend of this car. Being small it manages to be just light and cheap enough, leaving lots of room to work on breaking through air and making the car more slippery. A good gamble on the body type, but it fell just a bit short as 2 cars sent in in the LAST 30 MINUTES of the competition turned out to be quicker. None the less - a very good result
Speed reached : 422,73

#3 Name : HighOctaneLove / Team : Bogliq Automotive - Moldova / Car : Shelob
Image
A car very similar to other chassis Bogliq Automotive has brought to Dessau, and that means the same high level of attention to aero is present in D2 entry as well (if it aint broke). The engine produces 1018hp, which is enough to JUST break into the top 3 of the D2 class. A good effort by HighOctaneLove and team Bogliq Automotive, with solid results!
Speed reached : 428,16

#2 Name : AirJordan / Team : Smooth Racing - United States of WHATEVER / Car : Smooth Mustard
Image
Looks familiar? We still got nothing, we're just like you still staring at the thing, periodically laughing at it's name, and then looking at the registered speed and going to shock again. What surprised us is that 1089hp, over 200hp more than the similar chassis of Smooth Racing D1 class, the overall speed increase was only 10kph. It still allowed Smooth racing to grab second place in D2, but we feel that it could be #1 with just a bit of extra work.
Speed reached : 448,88

#1 Name : BurningBridges / Team : DMW - Germany / Car : DMW 9436 H7R
Image
Team DMW was running top speed competititons in the early 90's and their expertise in this field shows instantly. The 1309hp powerhouse in a cheap steel chassis, covered in fiberglass, high level of attention to details, especially aero, and we got this, the DMW 9436 H7R. While next year the classes will be changed to C1 and C2, allowing for more power, we are sure that only the chosen ones will be able to get close to this monster. Congratulations to Burning Bridges on a job well done and the official top speed record holder in D2 category for 1994.
Speed reached : 458,48

But I understand this right that only the flying 5km matters, even if standing 1 mile, standing 5 and 10 are worse?

Exactly right. It does not matter how you perform before the magical 5km mark. Only the flying 5km matters.

Re: Dessau Autobahn Automation Speed record 1994 [Open]

Ah well, better to concentrate on one thing.

How long do you think is the approach distance for a flying lap during a normal record? Right now it's exacty 5000m, which may be a bit short. I had another idea with a much longer approach run, then a flying 10km, then another distance with U-turn and a another approach, then the second flying 10km (reverse).

Also I have made a car but it will be a few days before I send it because there are things I still dont understand. Thanks for taking this on, mate!

Re: Dessau Autobahn Automation Speed record 1994 [Open]

I think 5km is good enough. Means you need a car that can put the power down, and it gives enough runway for you to get up to some serious speed

Re: Dessau Autobahn Automation Speed record 1994 [Open]

Hm, there must be a rule how long the approach must be. I looked in a FIA rulebook but couldnt find anything. Otherwise a difference in flying 1/5/10 kilometer is nonexistant, once there is enough road to accelerate it becomes vmax. Should keep that in mind that I dont make the approach longer than it should be.

Currently what I get is pretty good. close to vmax, but lower. Makes for a nice tradeoff between acceleration and top speed.

Re: Dessau Autobahn Automation Speed record 1994 [Open]

DMW is committed to high speed records and wants to enter a car until Feb 12. They have garnered a lot of experience in the AVUS races and welcome the opportunity to test on the much more spacious Dessau track.

Our main experience is with much smaller turbos up to 1.9L. For this track, a special 3.6L turbo is being developed by Max Kurzhuber and Dr. Proll, our specialists for high performance engines.

Also, our sponsor Currywurst Fabrik wants to invest 1 milllion Mark to renovate the area and release another improved version of the track. It's gonna be called called Dessau 36 km and become more of a real course, with some turns and stuff, but also include the flying 5km with a more tricky approach. The current track will of course remain as the most simple version for speed records, while the other version is supposed to be something more athmospheric.

question, for "shown in car design sharing" does that mean open source vehicles count? i'd surely love to use some of them as a base vehicle.
Company Id:1945270
Galt Motors, excelence since 1945
(PS, Galt automotive is still Galt motors, i use it interchangably)
