The fifth race of the AWEC is close. Now we're mid-season and we can't wait to see the results of the race! We left America and this time the race is in the beatiful city of Melbourne, in the circuit of Albert Park, home of the F1 Grand Prix of Melbourne. The official sponsor for this race is Gryphon Gear, the guys behind the dominant Zeus GT, we'll just have to see if the car is able to win in his own country.
Image
The track is more of a power track, with a lot of turns and almost none large straights, which could mean problems to the more powerful/heavy cars but a relief for the technologicaly advanced AP1 cars. Or another "circuit of the americas" could happen

The last races have been really bad for the Meliora Automotive Team, so bad that they're loosing the Manufacturer title, and only the Vulcan GT remains in the top 3 of its category. Kraft Haus Technik should win this race if they want to secure it's dominance in the AP1 class. On the other hand, Smooth Racing and Pragata Motorsports are full of surprises, and now they're about to climb all the way to the top in the manufacturers championship and the AP1 and AP2 classes. This race is also interesting for the AP2 class, because there is a tie between the Spina, the Shadowbird and the M8-R (also called "the mate-r").

The event will be semi-live this time, don't forget to see it, tomorrow at 12:00 pm US Central time.
In the meantime, don't forget to check our sponsors!

Re: AMWEC '15 6HRS OF MELBOURNE

We're about to start the race, and the confidance is high in the teams and they are just making the final arrangements (puting tyres, fillink tanks). It's about 5:00 am in melbourne and the conditions are not so good for the cars (cloudy with high chance of showers).

30 seconds before the race the engines start to run... and the clock has started for the 6hrs race. Here it's the positions on the grid (and the qualifyng times).

Re: AMWEC '15 6HRS OF MELBOURNE [Qualifyng+starting grid]

Among others, Hannah Eynaud, Team Principal of Team Ninja Horse, one half of the ZGG cooperative, was interviewed on World of Racing TV during practice earlier. A transcript of what she had to say follows:

Hannah wrote:...Yeah thanks Mark we're heaps excited. A home race is always special after all and this is in many ways a first for us. We're really grateful for the opportunity to sponsor this race as it's our life, we'd like to, you know, share it as much as we can with others. Hopefully we'll get away clean and then we'll see how we go.

A still from the TV clip captured the shenanigans of driver, Kai Kristensen, and chief mechanic, only identified as Tesla.

Sources say this kind of behaviour, which was to be dubbed 'Moongate', is apparently fairly standard for the Gryphon Gear crew. And they got Hannah's name wrong, as usual.

p.s. I tend to draw cartoon characters. If that sits wrong with you, just pretend they're human.

Welcome to Talking AMWEC, I'm Steve Hatch, alongside Sillyworld bringing you the biggest and latest news of everything that happens in the AMWEC. Today we are bringing you exclusive live coverage of the 6 Hours of Melbourne from Alberta Park, proudly sponsored by Gryphon Gear. Joining us with our exclusive coverage will be Will Taylor, who will be acting as our man on the ground, bring you action packed updates from the race paddock as they happen.1

Saturday's qualifying rounds were an exciting battle between all the classes, ending with a very mixed grid, possibly one of the most mixed grids we've seen so far this season. It should be very interesting to see how this race pans out over the coming hours with this interesting mix of classes. Will the field stay mixed like this, or will the classes start to become more defined as the race continues? Let's find out, the 2015 6 Hours of Melbourne starts now!

1 If you would like to provide interviews or tid bits about how your team is doing, feel free to PM me. Otherwise I'll probably just make stuff up. Either way works for me.

First hour update!
Image

The tyres colors should be pretty obvious, green are brand new tyres, yellow means the tyres are just getting hotter, orange means that the tyres got between 200-100km of life, and red under 100km.
The PTSTP indicates what type of pitstop and in which lap.
Keep in mind that accident could mean technical failure (problems with the electrical system, with the transmission, etc) and if 2 accidents happend in the same lap we could pretend it's because those 2
cars crashed

POLE the possition on the starting grid and the next updates includes another column, for last position. Enjoy and discuss :geek:

Re: AMWEC '15 6HRS OF MELBOURNE [1st hour update!]

Image

The first hour of racing at Alberta Park has brought some big thrills along with a lot of difficulties. While the front of the pack hasn't changed much, there has been a lot of battling for position farther down the grid. With 15 cars having to pit within the first hour of the race, all of which from accidents, this race is looking like it's going going to have a high attrition rate. In fact, after only two laps we had our first accident, which appeared to be the result of a collision between the Garuda AGTE entry and the F15 Patricia AP1 entry, with the F15 seeming to have taken the worst of it as it lost a entire lap out of the deal compared to the Garuda. The incident seemed to cause a great deal of damage to the front end of the F15. Further inspection by the team revealed it caused some suspension damage. Nothing that would remove them from the race yet, but could slow the car down. This damage however seemed to cause more problems as the car had numerous other collisions throughout the first hour. The race stewards have warned the team that any further collisions would warrant a penalty.

The biggest improvement in position for the first hour goes to the Boss 499 of Boss Motorsports, which has made up an impressive 12 positions from it's starting position of 27th. If the car is able to keep that pace it could very well be a challenger for the front of the pack by the end of the race. Will Taylor caught up with Boss Motorsports to get a comment on their race so far.
Boss Motorsports wrote:Boss Motorsports is very pleased to see IL CAPO running in the lead pack in 6th position following a top 10 start. Hopefully the driver will be able to keep it on the track and continue to challenge the leaders. The Boss 499 is causing a stir in the paddock with a gain of 12 positions as it steadily climbs into 15th from a poor starting spot. Again we hope that the driver can keep the rear wheels hooked up. The Boss-Kart has already caused some headache in the pits, causing the team to have to do some quick work to get it running again. The driver got excited in the heat of the battle and got to the throttle a little too early on soft tires and just spun her around. It's been pretty clean and back in the thick of things with some other competition. We're confident that it can use it's quick spooling turbos to its advantage where it counts so long as the tires hold up. It seems that we've learned that next season this car will definitely need to be equipped with a medium tires and a milder turbo, if one at all. It will surely be a long 6 hours for our AP2 entry.

While the Alpha AP1 entry leads the race overall at the moment, it have difficulty keeping that pace throughout the race, having the used the most fuel of any other car. The next highest fuel used was by Backfire Motors Model X15 using 41% of it's first tank of fuel, more than 10% less than the Alpha. Not only that, the Alpha seems to be going through its tires quickly. Their drivers need to start driving more conservatively if they hold any hope of winning this race.

If the race continues like this it should make for some very interesting results.

Re: AMWEC '15 6HRS OF MELBOURNE [Hour #2 update!]

The second hour of this six hour race saw nearly half of the field into the pits due to either accidents or scheduled pit stops for tyres of fuel, as well as positions starting to straighten out and fall more into place.

At the very front of the grid there's still a battle taking place for first position, but it looks like it won't last much longer as the Zeus GT Spec has regained first position and will likely begin to pull away from the pack following a fierce battle for the lead. The Zeus GT can be expected to make a pit stop for tyres within the next hour, however at the rate it is currently using fuel it won't need to stop for fuel for a long while.

Further down both of the Meliora Automotive AP1 and AP2 entries have dropped to the middle of the pack from 8th and 9th. Will Taylor caught up with their race engineer for a comment on the situation.
Meliora Automotive Race Engineer wrote:Both our AP1 and AP2 entries suffered from individual accidents. Nobody else was involved in either accident, and luckily nobody was injured, however extensive damage was caused to both cars that caused us to loose many positions both on track and with our time spent in the pits repairing the damage. Both cars should now be back to their full potential and we hope to make our way back up the grid.

One interesting bunch to follow is Banshee AGTE entry, the F15 AP1 entry, who had no further accidents this during this second hour, and the NV820 AP2 entry, as they have all been working up through the ranks as though they were working together. At the back of the pack that seems to be the best strategy for the long run if you want to have a peak at the middle of the pack.

In other news, earlier today we were said to receive the report from Nick Andrev of Fox Manor garage confirming the suspicions that their number two driver for the Galadante, Pau Kerin, was involved in an accident outside of the track yesterday following qualifying. Reports from the doctors at the hospital which he was admitted say that while Pau is currently in critical condition, he is expected to make a full recovery with time, and for this reason he will not be continuing the 2015 AMWEC season. In the wake of his absence, Anna Drivik will be taking his position as number two driver. Nick said "Whilst we regret that Pau cannot race with us for the rest of the season, we welcome in a new driver, Anna Drivik, to replace him. Anna was the Forvio test driver, so we hope she can do well for us."

I'm going to wait for a couple "paddock reports" to come in from you guys before I write the hour 3 report. So I'll give it about half an hour, then I'll start writing.
