AMWEC '15 [Finished]

Automation Motorsport World Endurance Championship 2015

Hello and welcome to the AMWEC 2015. This series focuses on endurance races (from 6 to 24 hours) around the world (10 races) on 3 different categories (it's largely based on the FIA world endurance championship), 1 for modified production cars* and 2 for cars expressly made for racing. All the caculations (tyres, fuel, brake replacement, accidents, times, etc) are done in a special spreedsheet according to some car values. The link for the spreadsheet and the explanations of the calculations are below.

Image
(You can still see all the poster for every event here viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6269&start=15#p98227 )

Rules and regulations

Automation Gran Touring Endurance Cars

Automation Prototype 1 cars

Automation Prototype 2 cars

Remember, a more drivable car is less likely to have accidents, and the more reliable the car is, it's less likely to need repairs after those accidents.

Tracks and scoring

There are a total of 10 races and 1 week between each race. In the time between races I will do posters, edit images of the contestants, and other nice stuff. After every round, I will publish the results, and the spreadsheet for each car, so you could check how it went (to avoid future issues with future updates of the game, I will run all the calculations for every race the firts week).

Image
Schedule:

Each car will recive a certain amounts of points depending in what place they come overall and relative to the class it's competing.
(More laps and minor time will be first, and less laps and major time will be last).

Image

Five titles are awarded:
Manufacturer's World Endurance Champion -- Player with more points, summing all its cars.
World Endurance champion car -- Player with the car with more points (overall).
Gran Touring world cup -- Player with the AGTE class car with more points.
Endurance Prototype world cup -- Player with the AP1 class car with more points.
Endurance Prototype world trophy -- Player with the AP2 class car with more points.

How things are calculated

Here's the spreadsheet with an example and a blank spreadhseet, so you could check the formulas I used:

Note: You must use Excel or other software that allows you to use iterative calculation. If you're going to use excel, go to >office logo >Excel options >formulas >enable iterative calculation >maximum iterations: 1.

Here you can check an in-depth of the calculations: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BySQs- ... sp=sharing

Download link for the tracks: https://mega.nz/#!YR523aaZ!s_GYh4N9nl2D ... UraR8Tn2EM
Disclaimer: I didn't made these tracks (except Fuji and Sebring), I just doubled the distance of the track and modified the second sector, only for this specific tournament. All the credit goes to their makers, more info in the folders.

That's all (I know, it's a really long post!). Sorry for the typos and misspells
Please comment and share your thoughts!

Re: Automation Motorsport World Endurance [DISCUSSING RULES]

Comments:

For RP Purposes, my company LHE would have shifted to using Direct Injection as standard equipment by 2014, and VVT is also standard equipment on all post 2004 engines.

For having a production car class, I would say limiting DI, and VVT seams silly, as VVT is WIDELY used, and while DI helps greatly with knock limit, is expensive.

Not to mention DI is common place by 2015 IRL.

Those are my only nit picks.

Re: Automation Motorsport World Endurance [DISCUSSING RULES]

While DI and VV tech are common place in road cars, you will find the Le Mans rules explicitly prohibit them on the GTE models.

i kinda agree... a bit too advanced and complex, and will take a lot of time from the OP.

or if it does goes at least halfway. i can see some problems due to game updates because the competition will be dragged on a bit too long

I understand what you mean there. I will change the rules as soon as I get home to allow DI and VVT for all classes. The power to weight ratio and the cost are already limited, so a contester will have to choice between those technologies or to put more quality in other area, like the drivetrain.

I'm not going to lie, things happen and there's the possibility the competition won't be finish.
However, I put a lot of time into the spreadsheet and the rules, I will try my best to get it finished.

About the time, actually running the calculations in the spreadsheet take me like 5 minutes or so, so it will only take me a couple of hours peer round. And I have the time.

A solution to avoid the future updates issue will be to use only 1 trim peer car, and I can run the calculations for all the rounds in one weekend and release the results of one round every week. Or, send me all the trims for each round at once.

Re: Automation Motorsport World Endurance [DISCUSSING RULES]

I just noticed this. A lot of work has already been done by compiling all the separate class rules on separate pdfs. Also, the formulae appear to have been published in full, which is something I like to see.

I actually agree with Riso in that if emulating the real world rules, DI is not allowed in GTE cars. Of course, liberties can be taken in this game.

And the best part is that I already built a GTE car when thinking about how to build one, so I've got a car that mostly conforms to the regulations of the GTE class! Oh, wait, it was in the previous version, now it's gone... d'oh.

Re: Automation Motorsport World Endurance [DISCUSSING RULES]

So there are Street Cars, but is there any incentive to make them good? Like, I could easily make an expensive and useless road car for the sake of making a fast race car, because they have to share the same trim.

On that note, will there be street car rewards?

I would say there's no incentive in real life either :P homologation rules are just like that. Consider the MC-12 or the CLK-GTR :P

I'm afraid there will not be street car rewards, just like strop said. Besides, that will be an entirely new contest, and it won't be fair because only the AGTE makers can participate.

How did you do it? I tried to use google docs, but I'm getting this error:

Also, I'm posting a poll, to see what do you prefer (thinking in avoiding the next update re-balancing issue), to make one trim for all races, a trim for each race and send them all at the same time, or a trim for each race sending one by one prior every race.
Edit: The poll will close next saturday, and the day after I will post the results and final ruling on trims, the schedule of the events, and I will start taking entries and publish the deadline.

maybe i'm just being too pessimistic.... sorry.

anyway.... we dont have to participate in all 3 classes if we wanted to participate, right? like, i'm really only interested in 2 of the 3 classes

That is correct, you can participate in one, two or even three classes.

Actually, you should be seeing this:
Image
Notice that there's no #REF! inside the cells.
That's because you should use a program that can handle circular or iterative calculations, which I use across the entire spreadsheet. A iterative calculation is when a formula refers to the cell that contains the formula itself. Example: You need a new random value in A1 when B2 says "true". If B2 is change to any other value, A1 will lock the last random value. The formula will go like this:
  Code:
=if(B2="true",randbetween(1,20),A1)

Also, enlapsed time says 0:03:24, but it actually is 24:03:24, excel can't display beyond 24 hours.
