Re: Riceburner Challenge - Accepting Entries.

I know it's a bit late to bring this up (I've been busy), but... One thing that prevents me from entering this challenge is that the requirement to build three trims seems to have little relation to the main thrust of the premise. It makes sense from the "this is the line-up of the original car", but... I don't see anything about the car Timmy actually gets to drive??? Did I misunderstand something?

Re: Riceburner Challenge - Accepting Entries.

The little story thing just puts it into context, and has nothing to do with the challenge as such. Having three trims makes it more interesting.

Re: Riceburner Challenge - Accepting Entries.

I actually liked the premise, running a tournament like that would be like: make a car in 199x and then make a new trim in 2015, you can modify this and that. Of course I am not expecting you to change this tournament at all, but just saying, I'd totally participate in something like that ;)

Re: Riceburner Challenge - Accepting Entries.

Okay, I made an entry.

It'll probably get dead last in every metric, but hey, it's my first try.

....so, how do I upload it to the judges?

dont be so pessimistic. there could be someone that tried something too out of the box and unique but failed hard. you could beat that guy... :)

Re: Riceburner Challenge - Accepting Entries.

Just send it to me via PM.
I'm gonna extend the deadline a little bit because of a lack of entries til the 1st of December. If we don't get any more entries after that then I'm going to have to cancel it.

Hi Microwave,

I would like to enter, will that make a difference? How many entries do you need? Just wondering if it makes sense for me to start building the cars :)

Re: Riceburner Challenge - Accepting Entries.

Did a quick reread, and now I have a question - do I really have to have the exhaust fixtures on my car? Really?

I think it really spoils the look of, well, any car to have exhaust pipes coming through the rear bumper/ fascia - think about it, what 1990ish car of Miata-ish standing have visible exhaust like that? A muffler and visible piping below the rear bumper, yes, but until I can cut a tiny half-moon in the bodywork and suspend a small canister and tip, I use the exhaust fixtures on maybe 2% of the cars I make. (Sorry devs, I think they look like utter shit.)

Miata? No. CRX? No. MR2? No. RX-7? No. Celica? No. Most cars in the real world did not, and DO not, have these.

Maybe some Corvettes, maybe some Italian "sports" cars, but not these types of cars. Nope.

TL;DR - If you make me put them on the cars, I will, but they really spoil the looks.

You just need exhausts on the engine, you don't have to have visible exhausts on the bodywork.

Re: Riceburner Challenge - Accepting Entries.

Well, if that's the case, then I'm an idiot, and I'm sorry.

BUT - OP listed "exhausts" along with headlights, taillights, handles, etc., ie. a fixture...
I'm not even sure how I could make a motor without exhausts, unless that means mufflers, but since there's a loudness limit listed... I don't know. I'm leaving them off until I'm told to put them on.

...quick shot of the base model of Britain's answer to the Miata - the Barker RB2.
A long way from the original shed in the north, this coupe is powered by a single-cam design from Cosworth.
(They had a surplus of old sealed beams, don't judge)

Nah. I won't disqualify you for a lack of tailpipes.
