The year is 1966. The 8-Track is all the rage and so too are these new V6s that are starting to catch on, not wanting to fall behind the times your company decided to intro a new, comfortable family saloon.

Exhaust Manifolds: No Race or Long Tube.
Muffler: Twin Baffle only. (First and second)
Entertainment: Premium AM. (8-Track not available in game, but was IRL)
Quality Sliders: 15 points total overall. (negative points count as points spent) Edit 6/26/15 9:00PM PST: This means you may spend up to 15 points.

You are to build a comfortable family car which features premium sound while keeping the car noise down. It needs to be able to carry a family, and father would like if it was at least a little sporty, but not too harsh on fuel costs.

Recommended goals (not requirements):
Engine reliability better than 40
Vehicle reliability better than 50
Economy better than 18mpg US
Comfort better than 20
Drivability better than 20
1/4 Mile better than 20.00 seconds.

Negative Stats.
Fuel Economy will be based on 10000 miles a year @ cost per gallon (US) based on octane. Total Cost and service cost will also weigh negatively, as will loudness.

Octane Prices:
80 Octane: 53 Cents per gallon
92 Octane: 61 Cents per gallon
98 Octane: 66 Cents per gallon

May I point out that using the current open beta could mean that in a couple of days some change can modify the results of the entry?

Up to you, but maybe waiting for the release update will be better to run a competition.

I just found out that on Friday the Open Beta changes become mainstream. Maybe Lordred you could hold off a day or two and make this competition start from then?

Ok. I thought the open beta was going to be longer

I had no idea how long it was going to be myself, but the latest little dev update said that, because the open beta has gone so smoothly, it'll go mainstream today!

Even then, as shown by the changes Rob made to a few of the calculations a few days into the beta, a bunch of things could change in the calculations, changing the results.

I am going to re-open the challenge, feel free to submit now, or after the patch.

No rules have changed, but I have updated the goal post to give you an idea of what to aim for.


Benchmark Car:

The 1966 LHE Komodo. Powered by a 2.9l V6 this concept car never made it into production, though the owner of LHE Fredrick Legroidian did drive the one they produced as his daily driver up to 1978.

In the mid-60's, Ardent was working with a number of concepts to grow their line. While the muscle car was on the horizon, Ardent was not shy about trying out the style's viability as a family transport. Two prototype versions of the Ardent Marathon were produced in 1966. The first was the Marathon XT, which was more the pure muscle car, powered by a TA8-C engine, which had just entered production earlier that year in the Manhattan luxury car. The second, this example, was the Marathon XE. It was geared more for family use, with an upscale interior and better appointments. It was also fitted with a much smaller engine that was, itself, a prototype. The Eridani series engine (Code for this particular one was EB6-X) was the first V6 produced by Ardent, and had set out to make a mark for itself. It produced good power, but its rather large displacement and thirst for fuel compared to other Ardent offerings sent it back to the drawing board for some time. When the Ardent Marathon came to market as a 4-seat coupe the next year, the Taurus engine remained as the muscle car offering, and the Eridani was dropped in favor of the traditional Orion straight-6.



(Designer's note: I know he said "Saloon", but there have been plenty of 2-door sedans throughout history. My real-worl inspiration for this was the AMC Marlin fastback. Of course, I do crap poor job of imitating it... but ah well)
