BRC 1955 - The Golden Age [Qualifying R5]

BRC - Bavarian Racing Challenge - 1955

What once upon a time was the Bavarian Rallye Challenge has now become the Bavarian RACING Challenge. And with "RACING" I mean "RACING". Direct Competition. Fighting for Position. Epic crashes. Tragic failures. Worn out tyres. Each race a unique story.

After a good start in 1945 we continue in 1955 with updated rules.

Features
  • lap after lap after lap, dynamically calculated acceleration, braking and cornering
  • standing start
  • real time calculated fuel consumption
  • tyre wear based on tyre compound and car settings and stats
  • engine failures based on engine reliability
  • mechanical failures because of crashing based on chassis reliability
  • B.R.O.B.O.T: Bavarian Randomly Organised Behaviour On Track: dynamic, random and rulebased artificial intelligence in the driver's seat (overtaking, holding up others, crashing, errors based on car driveability, good and bad starts...)
  • Youtube videos of training, qualifying and race sessions with 2D track view, timing and automated text comments (and, thanks to NormanVauxhall, Pyrlix and Pleb, live commenting on Twitch)
  • theoretically unlimited number of participants (practically limited by screen size to fields of 38 cars)

Rules and technical specifications
  • 1 car per player only
  • Chassis and engine year: 1955
  • Power to Weight ratio: 0.20 hp/kg or lower
  • max. tyre width: 175 mm
  • Tyre quality: 0 or lower
  • No wings and lips
  • max. total cost: $8,000
  • Community Modpack from the Automation forums allowed (plus the non-Sprite body made by trackpaduser)
  • Engine reliability (recommended): ~ 30

Tracks
  • some Pre-Season Tests (during the Build-phase) for Benchmarking (revisions allowed before first race)
  • Automation Test Track
  • Brands Hatch Indy
  • Monza 1961-1965
  • Norisring
  • Südschleife

Race Weekend Format
  • Training Session (10 laps) for fuel consumption estimation
  • Single lap qualifying (the fastest 38 cars qualify for the race)
  • Race 1: 30 minutes. Starting fuel estimated based on training results (heavier cars for gas guzzlers at the beginning)
  • Race 2: 30 minutes. Reverse grid from Race 1 results. Same starting fuel rule.

Championship Points
  • Qualifying: 1st 5p, 2nd 3p, 3rd 1p
  • Race points from 1st to 20th: 50, 40, 35, 30, 26, 22, 19, 16, 14, 12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
  • Lead at least one lap at the finish line: 3p
  • only the best 8 out of 10 races of each player count to the championship (2 drop results)

How to participate
  • Build a car according to the rules
  • Send a PM to me with the 4 .lua files of the car (name the files in-game to "BRC1955-playername-Engines-Families.lua", "BRC1955-playername-Engines-Variants.lua", "BRC1955-playername-Cars-Models.lua" and "BRC1955-playername-Cars-Trims.lua", only edit "playername", the rest should be exactly as I wrote (and case-sensitive)! Please please please do this correctly!). Add the name of your car in the PM (for example BAM 1955 BRC).
  • Deadline: June 7, 8 p.m. UTC+2
  • Check this thread during the building phase for results of pre-tests to get a feel of the performance of your car.
  • Tweak the car if neccessary and send me the new file (only before the first training session of the first race weekend)
  • No revisions during the season!

The larger amount of bodies and parts available will definitively make this more interesting, although I wouldn't be surprised if the difference between the top and the average cars ends up being a bit larger.

Also, obligatory complaint about the still very crappy brakes available in 1955 :D

Tried to keep a little bit of that black-headlight look from the 1945, but it doesn't work very well on this model.

(Also, setting boldly forth with a non-aerodynamic body ... because apparently I hate winning. :D)

Pressure is on! I'll only have one night on friday to have a crack before I go away for a bit, but I'll be back to see if I can keep everyone honest again. :D

Also, Packbat, that car is beautiful. Just saying.

Honestly, with the more powerful, faster cars, I expect tyre wear to become a bigger issue.

Thank you! Most of the credit goes to the 3D artists who made the meshes, but I was happy with how I managed to put them together.

Honestly, with the more powerful, faster cars, I expect tyre wear to become a bigger issue.

That's one of the reasons why I'm trying to get in early - I want to see how much tyre wear my current setup suffers.

Oh man! These shitty brakes! Go for 14inch wheel and thinner tires? Go for a lighter and least powerful car? So much compromises!
