Interesting Championship idea.

Ok so we have a number of contests and championships that are running on the forum. But one thing i see that is missing is a championship ran like an RL championship, such as F1, WTCC, BTCC, DTM, V8 supercars etc etc.

So far we have contests to build a car within x amount of specifications and rules. This contests are then ran race by race with the same setup. So how about a championship where before every race, each driver/team sets up their car for the upcoming race, But with certain limits involved, ie: Engine freeze.

I think it might make for some interesting competition, despite the hard work

It'd be cool to be able to change your set-up, but you'd have a shitload of work collecting all entries every race, checking them if they didn't change more, and testing all of them. If you're up to that, go for it I'd say. :)

Re: Interesting Championship idea.

the amount of work would depends on how many people would enter the contest, also to cut down time, you could keep a folder with screenshots of certain screens to quickly check legality. is easier when you use multiple screens. But such a contest would have to be set up and ran properly.

Re: Interesting Championship idea.

I don't think it would be so difficult to check it. Like Lothoren said, submit screenies of certain screens and they could be checked fairly quickly. The only thing alowed to change would be suspension/tires, as with most real competitions. I actually am trying to get all the F1 tracks done for just this purpose! :)

Re: Interesting Championship idea.

I thought that the best championship to run would be a Can-Am style championship.
The reason being a distinct lack of rules regarding design.

The second easiest would be GTP, with the only major rules being a sliding displacement(times induction type)/weight scale.

Re: Interesting Championship idea.

I just had random idea for potentially fun challenge (I'm not gonna run). It would be pretty damn hard to do it right though. What I'm talking about is Initial D/NFS:MW/Fast&Furious style street racing competition. Instead of building car from scratch you'd receive imaginary dollars to buy car from models provided (hopefully with some good variety) and then spend whatever you have left on improvements. Players could be earning additional funds in-between races. It would be a real headache to run something like this though, not to mention amount of work you'd need to do before hand. This would need a lot of very specific rules, preparing specific "upgrade packages" would probably be best way to do it, something like cheap turbo kit that can't go higher than 0.8 bar, or brake set with disc size up to whatever, specific rim sizes, sports compound, semi-slick tires etc. Letting participants change just about anything in their cars wouldn't work very well. Yeah you'd have to be madman to run this.

Hmmm i think its time for a new championship to start up.... Watch this space. (Not literally this space but yeah you know.)

Btw would it be a good idea to have a Contest/Championship forum section, Purely for those who wish to run contests/championships, without them getting lost in general chat or car design forums

Could you imagine having to go through testing 10 peoples cars, go through that list seeing who made changes, making sure changes are correct, making sure changes are legal and then running a race -_- I have the utmost respect for he who has the patience to do that.

Re: Interesting Championship idea.

I can tell you, since I had the bright idea of allowing new but limited component tunes halfway through this tournament, and going through each car side by side to make sure something hadn't accidentally been changed gave me a headache -_- Good thing I did it too because somebody accidentally changed the quality slider on a part which would have made their changes illegal. Be careful with what you specify!
