Re: (1980) Communist Racing (RACE THREE RESULTS)

Heh that rear wheel drive is hurting me. I rarely make rear wheel cars, but I couldn't fit a big enough engine transverse. >.<

Re: (1980) Communist Racing (RACE THREE RESULTS)

Ded Moroz brought nice presents and the teams were celebrating with the KGB. But now all is done, and its time for some races again.

Today they raced on the famous Bavarian Rallye tracks, which are known all over the world. The results are... interesting.

Heh, all the Japanese cars are right next to each other in the rankings... both sets.

Re: (1980) Communist Racing (RACE FOUR RESULTS)

Interesting! If I remember correctly, stage 3 was a very bumpy one, if that is correct then the Tovarisc's strong placing makes sense as it has a ridiculous level of tameness relative to much of the field (the antithesis of a GG Tune, but hey, always fun to branch out and try new things right? :) ) Though of course it seems to lack outright speed still, which is not as important in this stage.

However that Dacia has proven to be extremely strong in every single stage, a fantastically balanced Communist car!

GOOD NEWS!
The Dacia seems to be a really balanced car so far... but its NOT the Sandero!

Meanwhile in Siberia: The racing team, and a handful of die hard supporters, look grim into the future while everyone else works double shifts. Less with actual work but ensuring everyone else and their dog knows they were always part of the group saying that both construction bureau and manufacturing should stick to stationary engines, construction equipment and tractors. There are very few even in the KGB that would blame these for actual lack of speed after all.

Re: (1980) Communist Racing (RACE FOUR RESULTS)

Liberta's results are of surprise to myself as well. I thought that a FF configuration was the least suited for a high performance car and honestly I never even tried it before in a competition. I only used it this time because I wanted my car to resemble as close as possible to the real thing. And the results got me thinking. So I just made a 3 click of a mouse conversion to a car I was working on for a forthcoming competition. No additional optimization. The car was a 390hp FR, double wishbone all around. 5 second conversion to a FF, McPherson strut + torsion beam => 2.5 seconds quicker around a Laguna Seca. That should not happen. I'm actually starting to see it as a problem that needs to be addressed.

Re: (1980) Communist Racing (RACE FOUR RESULTS)

Indeed, it was Leo who once remarked of Niall's entry that torsion beam should never be that fast...

...actually I wonder if this is still an issue in the new build. I haven't been able to test it lately, but Leo or somebody else might know. Time to look into it!

Re: (1980) Communist Racing (RACE FOUR RESULTS)

With my car it's not torsion beam though. Just turning the engine around 90 degrees and thus making my car FWD and the resulting added 6.4 points in Tameness and nearly 70kg weight loss (2.8 Sportiness) gains 1.91s on Automation track and 0.92s on airfield. With FWD the change from semi trailing arm to torsion beam rear has no effect on the time on Automation track and gains another 0.1s on Airfield, with double wishbone it is 0.01s slower on Automation 0.02s slower on Airfield than with semi trailing arm. With RWD double wishbone gains 0.28 on Automation and 0.11s on Airfield over trailing arm, still far from FWD results. Front always stays MacPherson and no changes elsewhere, too. But trying these further tests I just noticed to do FWD there's a bug involved, the engine is actually too large to be installed Transverse into that car.

Re: (1980) Communist Racing (RACE FOUR RESULTS)

IMO the "issue" with the torsion beam is that it's just as quick (if not slightly quicker) than more inherently sportier designs.

Re: (1980) Communist Racing (RACE FOUR RESULTS)

Hmmm. Allthat, plus results, is making me look at effects of tameness and sportiness more now. As expected, on faster roads, my car simply can't keep up with the frontrunners!

Re: (1980) Communist Racing (RACE SIX RESULTS)

:o

I... I won a stage? On a track I've never even tested?

This cup takes the cake as the biggest mind job for team GG. We must study these results!
