Because the Glued Aluminum chassis was not available until 1990 (2 years after the regulation for this challenge).

1988 was the realm of the Japanese 4-banger, the Eco-Boxes. Here's my entry. A hot-hatch called the 131.

2.0L DOHC i4 producing 131 HP to a 5-speed FWD gearbox.

*many many curse words* just rechecked my file, I somehow misread my breakeven number by a decimal point... well I hope my customers enjoy and are kind to my reliable cars as it doesn't look like my factory will be around to make parts for very long.

Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #1 [BUILD]

Max is only 43, 000 guess I should have gone with a bigger factory as well as increased the cost. Well live and learn, I'll know to triple check my numbers for build #2

*edit * Ahh I got the breakeven line and the max production lines confused, totally my screwup, still f**ked but at least I know why now.

Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #1 [BUILD]

I debated submitting this thing here.

With the largest factory I could have nearly made 1.5 million of them and they would have sold for a little less then 9k each. The things only cost about 4700 to make. The reliability means they would never die, its the Volkswagen Beetle!

But I submitted another car that has about twice the HP and can actually go faster then about 85mph.

*edit*

I probably should have submitted this thing, that would have been funny.

Re: CTC - Car Tycoon Challenge #1 [BUILD]

So I decided to throw caution to the wind and imagined an alternate 1980s in which the British created something that could compete with the german sports car makers for the Yuppie seal of approval. It's targeted squarely at the 1980's upper middle class elite in Great Britain, North America and most of western Europe and priced between a sporty BMW like the M3 (~$30K USD at the time) and the Porsche 911 ($45K-60K). I'd plan on creating a less luxurious I-6 version as well that would hit a broader audience at just under $30K.

The medium factory can churn out enough to make it a profitable venture inside of two years if we can get one of these in the hands of a decent percentage of stock traders, doctors and lawyers.

I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring with 2 valves of cheap turbo FWD nastiness.
