My car get 11.5 Mpg if that makes you feel any better, Quarter mile in like 16 seconds and 0-62 of 8.3 seconds. It not that fast really, then again I don't have your stats. Yours could be faster than mine!

Lol OK I do feel a bit better. My qtr mile is only 17 seconds, 0-62 of 9.4s and I manage almost 20mpg how did you keep the costs down!? I'm right on 7999.90 and my car weighs precisely 1300kg (with lengthened boot to make the weight).

Ok, so just for fun. KLinardo, whom is participating, told me that the Ford LTD 1978 was used by the Highway patrol outfitted with a 7,5L V8 engine. Look at this youtube video showing the performance of, I guess, a very similar version to the one used by the police back then. I find it amazing to see such a big ponderous beast getting up to such high speeds.

I kept cost down by using a single four barrel and ladder chassis, reduced interior quality, it does have power steering though! I thought I used leaf spring which I wanted to use, but I accidentally submitted it with trailing arms, but it was still cheap.

Oh lol I didn't even think about the suspension, I just used double wishbone. I find ladder frame ends up overall more expensive for some reason!

Look at this youtube video showing the performance of, I guess, a very similar version to the one used by the police back then. I find it amazing to see such a big ponderous beast getting up to such high speeds.

The 460 is an okay motor but Iv'e always felt it lacked a little bit of punch, I'm more of a mopar guy so I like my RB big blocks a little bit better than the 385 series ford motors.

Crap, your car is both more fuel efficient and quicker than mine. I went for the auto 3 speed , focused on drivability, comfort and safety. So I can only hope for the best. Can I also say though that your design is just brilliant for the era. 10/10 IGN.

The 460 is an okay motor but Iv'e always felt it lacked a little bit of punch, I'm more of a mopar guy so I like my RB big blocks a little bit better than the 385 series ford motors.

The 460 is a hell of a motor don't get me wrong, but I know that CHP loved the 440 six packs. Even they said that those engines were insane

Yeah thats usually the case but for some reason my car when switched to unibody it was about 200 MU more expensive,My usual suspension setup is McPherson struts and leaf springs, I wish we had front torsion bars like they had on older mopars. I think the leaf springs should scale up on the car when there is more weight put on them, like on older american cars they would have big overhangs just to fit those very long leafs, it should be like that if thats possible.

Well before the 1980s most police used mopars, like the Satellite and Furys with 383s, 400s, and 440s, and the wonderful torqueflite trans. Heres an article about squad use of mopars http://www.allpar.com/squads/history.html It a really interesting read.

My dad worked in NJ so the cars they used were different from the CHP cars. Ironically, the first car that he used for Highway Patrol Purposes would have been a Chevrolet Caprice, and my dad hated the 1988 and the 1992 versions he had. He retired with a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor which he enjoyed, but not as much as the 1995 version he had. The 1978 Ford LTD with the 460 is still his favorite car that he was assigned to this day. (Both videos posted here were sent to me by my dad previously, so good finds Tycondero) The 460's sole downfall was that it never got the chance to be a performance motor. It only came out in 1968 for use in Lincolns and by the time it made it into what would have been performance variants, it was because it's torque was produced from sheer displacement over compression. However, I challenge you to find a big block that was produced as long as the 385 Series.
