Re: International T/A Series [1971 Season] [Race 1 Results]

Things I've discovered today:
1. My TX is completely unaffected by the rear camber setting. -3 to 0.5 ==> same time around Albert Park and Laguna Seca
2. Low drag aero setting for Albert Park also makes the car faster around Laguna Seca. By about 0.2 seconds.

Oh dear, I shall stick to cars with garden rollers as tyres. It seems that having the most power and being 2nd lightest isn't a guarantee of things going well.

Re: International T/A Series [1971 Season] [Race 1 Results]

The truth is, somewhat like Leo, pre 1980s racing is really not my strong suit! I have difficulty working with carbs and skinny high profile tyres. In fact pre fuel injection, I have general difficulty with the following:

a) getting power
b) harnessing power

As you can see, LeSpass and a few others are particularly good at it, I could use a few lessons from them!

Whoah, LeSpass' times are absolute killer :o I mean, he's first in both classes by more than a second each.
Still, I'm really happy with my results. I'm very delighted that my aerodynamics trick paid off. I just wish I had switched my TX cars' engine to aluminium. Also, this year I'm going to pay much more attention to the car setup; last season I ran all races on one setup which probably cost me a position or two.

On one hand I'd never make cars for myself from before the modern era... on the other hand the time differences are so huge I'd love to know what I'm missing!

Don't ask me! I'd also love to know what I'm doing wrong as my cars are light, powerful and the suspension/other stuff has been fine-tuned...

Embarrassing confession: My TX is FWD
If anybody is curious, I can post the car after the competition is over.

Actually, there is no magic trick to make the cars faster. Most of the cases is just about finding a good compromise between the different parameters of your car.

This competition gives the chance to play with these parameters a lot (many thanks to VicVictory, as reviewing and changing the settings for every car on every race is a lot of work). This is quite important considering that in most of the races in the ITA series the laptimes have been very close.

The only rule of thumb that I can think of, is to adjust the suspension settings to barely avoid oversteer.

As far as creating power pre fuel injection and pre turbo, lots of cubes and dumping fuel into the cylinders was the way to go :-p your not going to get good mileage anyways.

Most Iconic muscle cars packed 400+ cubes and able to break 1hp per cubic inch on a good day. (by today's standards doesn't sound that great, you'd expect more hp from a 7 liter v8)

As for staying within the 5 liter restriction and making power, the right combo of stroke vs bore is essential I think.

It's official; I can no longer call myself a "Golden Member of the Order of RWD Greats"!!! :P Another FWD car has destroyed my entry and I've done no better in the overall standings than last year... At least my racecars will be cheap for classic racing enthusiasts!

Aha! As I suspected, while my TX under performs a tad, the TF is much more competitive!

Will be a good exercise to see what I can do better in this era.

Meh, I've lost faith in TF(former TU) last season. I just can't get that body to get any faster. Strop, I'm quite curious to see your car because you are using the same body. Maybe you would be willing to share it after the races are over.
